Gauging Interest

So I'm just sitting here thinking about starting up a web hosting company, and the entire thing CAN be pretty cheap, but I'm trying to figure out a good pricing package to offer to customers.. Basically, I would only have to make $25 a month off of the customers, anything more than that and it's profit, so it sounds like a **** good deal as long as I can get that. Just for ***** and giggles, I'm not going to hunt you down if I do do this, but be honest too if you'd be interested or think it's a good deal let me know, just so I can gauge some public opinions...

Each package includes:
unlimited domain name hosting, unlimited subdomain hosting, unlimited mySQL databases, 24x7 customer support, all the scripting languages I know of are supported, unlimited pop3 email accounts, and of course fantastico which has like 25 PHP scripts that can be instantly installed like blogs, content management systems, guestbooks, image galleries, real estate software, etc.

$2 for 100MB plus above features
$5 for 250MB plus above features

Domain name registration for $10 a year.

I think it sounds dirt cheap, in my opinion, which I think should draw more customers -- again tho I mean as long as I make $25 I've covered my fees.

Sound like a good deal / idea / concept?

actually, rethinking it, all I would have to make is 15.

not too bad. I would possibly consider it. I'm looking for a bigger place for Mayhem's site. Right now, I'm just gonna upgrade the GeoCities thing, but eventually, I will run of room there, too. So I might, I mught not. I dunno really.

meissen 02-17-2005 12:49 AM

yeah, I'm not looking for serious people to sign up, just seeing if y'all think it'd be a good price, I don't even know for sure if I'm going to do it or not.

RFF 02-17-2005 01:53 PM

Sounds like a good idea.

archemedes 02-17-2005 10:02 PM

looks good to me, would you have an option for retailers too?

NCamaro94 02-17-2005 10:12 PM

how would you get the 24x7 support you going to buy a building and put a bunch of servers and stuff so you can hire employees or how are you going to make it work? the idea sounds good, just thinking deeper into it.

TorqueDog 02-17-2005 10:25 PM

What about all the bandwidth and data-transfer you're going to use? That stuff isn't free.

meissen 02-18-2005 04:39 PM

1. Retailers as in carts and check out and what not? Possibly, I'm sure I can I just haven't looked into it...

2. 24x7 support via an AIM sn that I'm creating, and when I'm not online, I can simply forward any questions to gatorsupport3 :D

3. Bandwidth and data-transfer is allocated at 50,000MB a month with the 5,000MB space package I just purchased yesterday.

4. http://www.dejafini.com/ Already setting it up. :D

i don't think you'll be a super host with the limitations, but you can do some.

camaro94 02-18-2005 05:02 PM

hope it all goes well for you!

Yeah, definitely not trying to be some big time host or anything... I figure if I can host enough sites to cover my $25 monthly fee, I'll be happy. Mostly just doing this as it'd look good on a resume if I ever apply for being a webmaster or something.

camaro94 02-18-2005 11:46 PM

so when are you gonna be all set up and ready for customers?

archemedes 02-18-2005 11:48 PM

yeah the retailers I'd like to see checkout (still waiting on aproval to do online selling most frown on it)

meissen 02-20-2005 12:19 AM

Danielle, it's up and running -- if you're planning on signing up, if you can provide a paypal account it'd be more than appreciated because I'm still working on setting up "internet merchant accounts" and other forms of payment... also paypal is more secure since it takes you to paypal's own site. If you DO sign up, let me know because you'd be the first customer and I haven't tested the entire setting up process... if it doesn't work, let me know and I can manually set you up.

Of course, if you're just wanting to check it out, that's fine too. :lolsign: But at 2 a month, 24 a year.. how can you resist?! :lolsign:

As far as your question, Arch, it comes with Agora shopping cart installed, and you can install OS Commerce, Zen Cart, and CubeCart.
