General Ed

k im lazy as hell...when it comes to school. right now im only in community college, and i only planned on gettin my AS in automotive technology. but to get my degree i need about 7 classes for my general ed.

my dad said it best when he asked "isn't that what high school is for?"

im in an english and math class now with my two auto classes. i was thinking of dropping my general ed for next semester and continue on for as long as i need to with nothing but automotive classes and just learn all i can. i mean im already working at a repair shop, why would i need a degree? i just need the classes.

i say go all the way man you might need it it in the future if you plan on moving on to a better paying automotive job

I agree, and to add onto that, you will want a degree, because that's gonna look way better on a resume than just classes... I am in my first semester of college, and I'm taking all classes for my major now, but eventually I'm gonna have to hit those gen eds

You don't want to work in a repair shop your whole life do you? The real question should be this: "Should I just take what I want to take and work in a repair shop, or do I want do go all the way and eventually own a repair shop?"
In my opinion, the more education you have the further you can go. Well, at least it is easier.

well if i wanna own one i'll need a business degree too...if i get my general ed done for one degree and i want another degree do i need to do general ed again?!

I say finish up the degree. You'll reget not finishing it up later but you'll never regret not getting it.

a general ed degree gets you nothing in the future, it's a useless degree unless you want to teach shop or something like that (you can make triple what they make as a mechanic)

just drop outa college entirely

lol..

I wouldnt think you would have to take the same classes twice... once you take them once you should be done, you could test out of them anyway

become an astronaut.

you'll want the degree. It will benefit you more to have than to not have it when you are looking for a job. And you don't have to have a business degree to run a business. But for some people, it helps.

they actually look at teh degrees now, a general ed degree is considered by most employers no degree (some of the places I applied that want a degree disqualify applicants with a general ed one)it doesn't take much more to get a real degree (some are only 1 or 2 classes)

he's not getting a general ed degree, he just has to take some general ed courses to get his auto degree. Same thing I would have had to do for an Associate's in graphic design.

archemedes Oct 18, 2005 01:39 AM

the way I read it it was for the general ed
