Heads up!!!

Just a little heads up;

Recently my buddy went to a warranty approved place to do an oil change on his 05 GLI 1.8T and as it turns out the person who worked on his car stripped the oil pan by over tighting it therefore causing it to leak. He has a huge puddle in his garage and when he went back to the place that did his oil change they said that they were going to rethread the oil pan and use a new drain plug.

He called the local VW dealership and they said that a oil pan that has been rethreaded wont void any warranty however my buddy does not want an oil pan that was rethreaded and the place that messed his oil pan said that they will not pay to replace the oil pan because its not necessary since it can be rethreaded.

He called the owner of the franchise(theres only like 2 or 3 of the shops around) and the owner started yelling and saying how they are not going to pay for a new oil pan and how he doesnt know if it was even his employee's fault and that he doesnt know if it was damaged before it went into their shop.

Any comments or suggestions?

Its called;

He could keep arguing with them till they replace it. How expensive is an oil pan for a GLI anyways?

From VW, likely $6598793.56. From a wreckers, $25.

Well.... you could always sue them but only a honda driver would do that so just ask nicely... =]

If he can't get them to pay for it then i'd definately take it to court. Rethreading an oil pan is no excuse for overtightening, once it has been rethreaded it's lost its integritry and the pan will eventually need to be replaced. I know because this happened with my car, accept mine was a slow progression over the 15-20 years it had been on the car. Bottom line is it should never happen.

Actully its 275$ from VW plus labour. And it has to be off a newer 1.8T as the oil pan itself is a little different.

And Nuespeeds 1.8t pan, is like $170 shipped. And the labor is 10 10mm bolts.

I never knew Neuspeed made oil pans for VW's. Good to know that though.

They don't. Someone else does and they slap their name on it.

Yeah, it's Autotech or something, but it's still a nice lightweight aluminum pan with fins.
