Home defense

So yea, oddly enough, a couple days after Chad's post about his glock, someone tried to break into my appartment while I was sleeping. They boldly tried to kick my door in lol. Anyway, long story short, I have two cats, and some swords, and thats it. I left all of my 'firearms' with my father, which would all be useless in home defense.

I went out a researched pistols and everything I liked did not come in my price range.. so I settled for something a little less nice.. but with plenty of .. how can I say... bang for the buck?

http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=5

If you'll scroll through the pictures, I got a version of the Mossberg 500 Tactical Cruiser, except it comes with pistol grip + stock, a heat shield and side saddle for extra rounds. I ordered it on Saturday and it should be delivered on this thursday.

I'll feel a little better just knowing I have it in my appartment now.

that is so scary that someone tried to kick your door in! i would be so scared to sleep after that, and good move on getting that gun, i definitley would feel better having one just in case...i mean you have to protect your self.

Adric 10-08-2007 06:50 PM

All I have for defence is a metal baseball bat near my bed. I am allways afraid someone is going to come though my windows since they are close to street level and im in a **** neighborhood. Anyway if someone does I donno if I could keep myself from killing them with a bat lol. I donno if I would be scared shtless and not do anythng or be so pissed off I just keep hitting them.
This is if they don't have a gun to blow me away with lol.

Phate 10-08-2007 06:57 PM

Well, one of the reasons I like the idea of a shotgun as opposed to a pistol is, there is one universal sound that means gtfo, and thats the chambering of a shell in a pump shotgun. I pray I never have to use it.

yeah a bat is better than nothing.. i would hope that all it would take is one good blow to the head with it for them to go down, i always worry 'what if i dont hit them hard enough and than they kill me' but i do drive with my bat in the car just in case.. you never know, and im a girl so i cant kick some big guys a*s.

2000v6cam 10-08-2007 08:26 PM

yea i have a mossberg shotgun also pretty much for home defense in my apartment, at my last house i saw a bunch of guys trying to jump over my back wall in the middle of the night all it took was the sound of the pump on the shotgun and they just stopped and ran back to the car and took off. usually thats the good thing about a shotgun all u need is that sound and u might not even have to waste shells lol

paarman97maro 10-08-2007 08:30 PM

wtf... people that break into **** are so gay. What happened when they kicked the door, did they break it? I would have ****** thrown a spear at them or an arrow preferably.

All I have is a divers knife next to my bed. Thats all Ill need, my room is so small, they walk in the door and Im gonna "jinx from die another day" their ***.

Mike Jones 10-08-2007 09:16 PM

That is definitly a nice looking gun and you're absolutly right about the sound. I have a friend that use to be a cop and he was known to just **** the shotgun and the criminals would drop to the ground at that time.
Personally I like the Glock because it's very easy to use and move around the house, I can hide it from people that don't need to know I own it, plus I just enjoy taking handguns to the range as it's much harder to find a place to shoot skeet with a shotgun.
I'm thinking about getting a small decal that says "Protected By Glock" or something like that and putting it on the small window on my front door just so potential thieves will see it and know I'm armed before they ever try to break in.

It didnt break anything, it just bent the housing around the doorframe that holds the deadbolt.

Yeah for deadbolts!

FORCE_FED_Z 10-08-2007 10:37 PM

If someone wants to get in bad enough they will. But deadbolts are always a good idea. For those of you who have windows in your front doors, I would consider getting a deadbolt that is keyed on both sides. It takes a little more time to lock, but whats the point in a dead bolt if you can just break the window and turn the deadbolt. If its keyed on the inside then it does that person still can't get the door open. Just another small measure of home protection that is easily overlooked.

Just remember that just because someone is in your house, doesn't always mean you can open fire Dirty Harry style and waste them. As soon as they are confronted and make an attempt to leave they are no longer a threat and you have no grounds to shoot. (At least its that way in NY)

But yes- there is just something about the sound of a shotgun getting racked that puts a chill down most people's spine-

97z2801ss 10-08-2007 10:44 PM

you dont here unless your life is threated

remember if you do have a situation like that tell the cops you life is threated or you may go to jail.

Very good advice.

I work with a girl who's husband is a Sherif. She said that he told her if she ever has to fire a gun and does kill someone to tell the police doing the report that she feared for her life. She told me that so if that were to ever happen that I can tell them that I feared for my life and for the safty of my wife.
Joe how good is the law at protecting the home owner when someone does break in?(Where you live at least). If you come to the scene and you honestly can't figture out if the intruder was really trying to harm the family or not is it normal to back the family since their house was broken into or does the criminal get the nod.

98CamaroZ28 10-08-2007 11:38 PM

thats a pertty shotty, looks like a fun gun to own :D

niceroc 10-09-2007 12:03 AM

for home protection, a shotgun is deff the ****.. the sound is just hair raising... theres no creep around and try to find where they are at witha shotgun, its just that sound and people know u mean business

MetalliCamaro 10-09-2007 12:17 AM

MyFirstCamaro 10-09-2007 12:22 AM

i have my grandfathers night stick. . . . ******* metal wrapped in metal wire with the platic/ whatever it is seal on top

my 5 swords a few huge wooden bats and my dad has is list of good stuff to

Bernotas05 10-09-2007 01:47 AM

I carry OC on me since I'm certified to carry it all the time, that **** sucks for certification. But I plan on buyin a glock 32 soon for personal protection. I just had two of my friends shot up outside a club last week. I aint riskin that ****.
The m500 aint a bad choice, you could definatly do some damage with that, they sell drag link stabilizer rounds and rubber ball rounds for them which would definatly disable anyone trying to break in witout killing them unless you hit them in certain areas.

What you need to understand man, is if your against someone determined, or a crackhead looking for some cash... a night stick isnt gonna do much.

Im having to have my appartment complex replace my door and doorframe because the guy was kickin it so hard to try to get in.

paarman97maro 10-09-2007 11:31 AM

God some people are so retarded. Im convinced that if anyone tried to break in anywhere, I would beat them mercilessly.

whitecamaro96 10-09-2007 01:28 PM

Well luckily since I'm not a detective (yet...:) ) I don't have to make the final decision as to if they were in danger. I would definitely write up the initial report in their favor if they were feeling that they were in danger- the detectives make the final decision after a lot of interviews and looking at the evidence. Something that you have to remember is that as bad as it sucks, just because someone is in your house doesn't mean that they are intending to hurt you. The law protects a homeowner pretty well. If they can articulate that a reasonable person in their position would be fearful of their life then more than likely they will be cleared criminally on charges, but civil court might be a little different.

Just wanted to express to everyone that just because someone is in your house doesn't mean you can blast away at them, or beat them until they are a bloody mess. Obviuosly if you crack someone on the head and they get knocked out they are no longer a threat. You can't continue to tune them up and expect to get away with it.

Well, if someone breaks down my door in the middle of the night, and I dont know them, chances are i'll put a shot into them if they come near me or have anything that resembles a weapon.

Granted, im not going to shoot more than once if I hit them, or if they are running. Another reason I got a shotgun instead of a pistol, I feel like if I had a pistol and was put in that situation, without the proper training and muscle control, that I might keep shooting until they fell. With a shotgun, it takes effort, you have to load another shell, not just keep pulling the trigger.

paarman97maro 10-09-2007 11:53 PM

I would just like to make one good blow on a part of their body to keep them concious, then prod the wound to make them suffer and regret ever being so worthless and low to have to steal. maybe theyll get a ******* job.
