how the hell do i ship heads?

i dont know how many of you have ever lifted a pair of SBC cast iron cylinder heads...but theyre heavy. so i have no idea how to ship them.

ive decided my heads a junk and wont support my motor for ****, so i am thinking of selling them on ebay, but how do i ship them? no cardboard box can possibly support them.

Strap them to a mule.

Very carfully? j/k maybe freight? call your local ups store maybe they could tell you.

paarman97maro 08-29-2006 01:58 AM

get stronger cardboard and good tape.

How much weight are we talking? My rotors were like 30 pounds or some ****, and they worked jsut fine in a box.

Adric 08-29-2006 02:06 AM

naa I hear you can blow them....

Maybe get a sail and attach it?

Rules are ment to be broken

maybe get a normal box and cut a piece of wood or something solid to put on the bottom so it evenly puts the weight on the bottom of the box and just use really good tape on the bottom, kind of a pain but all i can think of cause i know how heavy heads are

NoRiceInside 08-29-2006 02:55 AM

ooo good idea!

blue89vert 08-29-2006 06:52 AM

a smaller crate than you would ship an engine in

FORCE_FED_Z 08-29-2006 05:01 PM

Its hard to ship heads, esp cast iron ones. I paid $50 for my alum., the big companies get away with it because of the bulk of shipping they do.

If you throw them on Ebay make sure you put in buyer pays shipping.

About the best thing to do is get a lot of paper to ship them in and boxes that fit fairly closely so the heads can't move around in them. Thats about the best I can do, if you crate or build a box that won't collapse you are just going to pay even more for them to be shipped, and being that they seem to be heads that you want to get rid of, I doubt someone is going to want to pay $100 plus another $100 to get them, then worry about machine work once they are received.

I would try & sell them locally.Put adds on bulitin boards at parts stores automotive shops etc..

yeah thats the tricky part. i was thinking maybe go to a junk yard and see of maybe i can use these heads as some sort of core exchange...and just pay the extra cost for the better heads.

aarontracy 08-29-2006 10:32 PM

ups and fedex has some kick *** tape that has some kinda thread in it that i guarentee will hold them. i shipped a set of lt1 heads and it worked for me just put em in 2 seperate boxes and use lots of news paper.
