Local Trooper(s) shot-

If you have heard the story on Ralph 'Bucky' Philips then you may know whats going on, if you haven't, do a quick search and read some of history on this story. If you don't feel like that- here's a quick overview-

Escaped prison in April 2nd- less than a week from his parole date- rumored that he was going to be killed by fellow inmates

June 10- NYS Trooper is shot in abdomen- Philips is the "person of interest"

July 13- $50,000 reward offered for information leading to Philips arrest

Aug. 9- A recent photo is released of Philips- photo was taken with 5 ft of him with a shadow on him that looks strikingly like a Trooper hat- police will not say how photo was obtained

Late Aug- Police arrest Philips family and charge them with harboring Philips

Aug 31- Two NYS Troopers are shot sniper-style, one in and out of the abdomen thru his vest, other shot in upper thigh, both critically wounded while staking out Philips former girlfriends house.

Sept 1- Philips is named prime suspect in previous days shooting. Reward for his arrest reaches $225,000

Sept 3- Trooper shot in the leg dies after days of surgery trying to save his life including amputation his leg in efforts to save his life.

The entire time Philips has stolen many vehicles, broken into countless camps to survive. He has been quoted as saying "Splattering Pig's blood all over" and vowing revenge on Police for arresting his family.

Now this manhunt has gone on for 5 months now. In an area a little over 1 county there are 140 Troopers on per shift, with additional help from both FBI, Border Patrol, local and county SWAT teams and yet this man continues to elude police. The two troopers shot were a part of one of the NYS Trooper elite units for tracking people. This man hunted them down and shot them, obviously this man is a HUGE threat to all cops- he is not going in without a fight.

As a Sheriff Deputy- I ask that, regardless of how you feel about cops, take a minute and pray for all the families involved. The Trooper that died was only 32 and left behind a wife and kids. The other Trooper is 38 and still listed in serious condition. This man is a threat to everyone involved and will obviously not come back without a fight and taking as many cops as he can with him. He has MANY weapons at his disposal including high-power rifles which go right thru a vest with out even slowing down.

Now this story has been aired on FOX news, has made AMW a couple times and if it continues and more officers end up dying to protect our local way of life I wouldn't doubt to see it on national news.

I guess it really hits home when it happens in your backyard. Its not uncommon to see these stories on the news, but rarely does it end up in your town. Now that it has, its really comforting to see how a communites of people who barely know each other can pull together and support this Troopers family.

Wow, of course I'll keep the officer's hurt and their family in my prayers as well as all the other officer's in the area so that nothing will happen to them either.

I hope you stay safe and that someone shoots this guy right through the head.

I say he should not make it back into custody (if you get my hint) anyone who would kill a cop would think nothing of killing his own mother

paarman97maro 09-06-2006 12:36 AM

Damn, Ive never heard about this. I hope the ****** gets caught, and or, killed on spot.

Officers and their familys will be in my prayers.

I never knew you were a cop... surprise . Although, I now realize you hinted at it.

glad I wasn't alone

my prayers go out to them and you. I hope some really sadistic cop catches him and tourtures him.

BTW I knew he was a cop and called it on the what do you do thread a few days ago :nana:

Good luck and stay safe my friend. I feel pretty sure this man would not allow himself to be taken into custody, so i'd definately shoot first. I may not pray, but I am deeply saddened and truely regret the loss of the families of the troopers.

I may be joining the ranks of the State Troopers myself, I have an application in with them, looks like its not the best time to be wearing a uniform :(

I'm making the prediction now that he won't make it in alive. At this point even if he doesn't try to make a scene and surrender, if it happens to be out in the woods, the story will be he had a weapon on him and was about to shoot regardless of the circumstances.

The crappy part is that if indeed he does make it into custody alive and makes it thru the trial(s), he will be a hero in federal prison for being a cop killer. Sometimes I wish we still lived in the old Wild West way of police work..eye for an eye.

The other Trooper was upgraded to critical condition today...we might end up having two funerals out of this although I pray we don't. One is too many.

I'm with you, the United States is so easy on it's crimials it makes me sick! It also pisses me off when the cops do their jobs and everyone starts screaming that they went to far. I can't even begin to tell you how mad that makes me. (Sorry but that happened here recently. Let's just say a guy with a gun, pointed it at the cops and he was shot and killed. He's had a criminal record since he was like 13 and just finished running from the police.)
Personally anytime someone runs from the cops or brings out a gun, knife, or weapon of any kind the police have a right to use lethal force. Any good citezen will just listen and do whatever the cops tell them. I don't understand why it's so hard to understand, you treat the cops with respect and they do the same to you. I guess that's why I've never gotten a ticket and I've never had anything other than pleasant conversations with every cop I've ever incountered.

FORCE_FED_Z 09-06-2006 09:59 PM

Well Chad unfortunetely you are the minority in how you treat cops. I am a very easy going person. I'm sure everyone on here would loved to be pulled over by me. As long as respect is given, it will be returned. I'm not out on a power trip to pull everyone over who is going 1 mph over the limit. I also am obviously not going to ticket for minor infractions unless its a ticket to take the place of a traffic violation- i.e.- tint ticket instead of 70 in 55. But it all boils down to respect. If none is given your odds of getting away are slim to none.

Chad you are correct with Use of Force. Officers are allowed to go 1 step above what they are being challenged with. ex- perp has fists, cop can use baton. perp has knife, cop pulls out gun. It is designed to try and prevent officers pulling their guns out for everylittle thing.

I'm going to hop on a soapbox for a minute here- I think it all boils down to how a person was raised. Now I understand you can't pick your parents and how they raise you. But you can understand if there were deficiencies and a lack of respect when they were raising you. If parents don't treat their kids with respect, then how are they going to learn it? These are the kids that turn out like Ralph Phillips and think that they can go out and do whatever they want without no regard to anyone else.

And yes- it seems as though criminals are getting out of crimes more and more these days on trivial little things in the trial. Its sad, the system doesn't work and the ratio of reformed criminals to non-reformed is almost non-existant.

One thing that people need to understand is that a cop's number one rule and priority is going home at the end of the shift. If that means that some jerk-off criminal gets shot so that I can go home, so be it. I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but I'm going home when my shift is up and so is my partner. Its the way that I operate and its not going to change...

A friend of mine with the police department in GA had a great thing he'd say when someone ran "I don't run, and carry 2 guns do the math" (GA requires a backup weapon not sure with you guys)

paarman97maro 09-07-2006 12:29 AM

Have they narrowed down or pinpointed where his location may be? I mean, has the search gotten any closer?

FORCE_FED_Z 09-07-2006 05:19 PM

They are narrowing it down, the problem is though that with the $225,000 reward on his head, every many that wears flannel and has a beard, someone is calling saying they saw Philips. Its always good to have the public helping, but receiving well over 100 phone calls a day is a lot...

More and more he is being narrowed down, but the detailed information that the news is putting out is less and less. Philips has people helping him and obviously if check points are put in the paper, obviously people aren't going to go that way.

So basically Paar, yes and no. He will be caught, may not be today or tomorrow necessarily, but it will happen. I just pray that no more lives are injured or worse case- lost because of this POS...

archemedes 09-07-2006 05:52 PM

He will be caught I just hope the pathetic low lives that helped him get caught too
