I hadn't heard about that but I believe it with the way Best Buy is and yet another reason I won't buy from them.

it wasn't too public (manufacturers don't like customers knowing they tell me what price to charge for their stuff) Wal-Mart does the same thing (Garmin products as well as Canon are all subject to MAP pricing)

best buy is such a ripp off, it was a 500$ difference at costco for the same TV... hella weak sauce...

Um, yeah any online store is cheaper. They dont pay employee wages, electricity, ect.. The markup is what youre paying for convenience.

What happens with that is if they can no longer service the model, they have to swap it out for somthing comparable. I work with the system all the time, and if we cant send somthing out for repair, or it gets there and they no longer have parts for it they swap it out for comparable technology.

Luckly lawsuits were brought against them for that.

What they had was a seperate intranet set up in store so when customers tried to look up prices they found online they were higher. I know they had lawsuits, and the intranet has since been removed. Pretty retarded, but each company has its own dirt. Guess it depends on where you go.

Costco is a typical you pay extra to get in the door to pay a little less for a refurb product (Sams and Costco normally only sell refurb or discontinued stuff hence it's cheaper)

.

yea but it wasnt an online store, it was at the costco down the road :lolsign: and it was $1999 for the same TV that was $1200 at Costco... same damn TV both 1080p everything. Not the TV I bought though it was the Philips brand.

archemedes Dec 29, 2007 06:16 AM

just realize most items bought at the warehouse clubs are not covered by a manufacturers warranty (if it was philips and came from costco it is used or stolen they are not an authorized dealer and have been told not to sell any more philips products)

oh... really, how do you know all of this? and Costco extends the manufacturers warrenty from 90 days to 2 years

paarman97maro Dec 29, 2007 12:38 PM

you realize youre comparing like goodwill to best buy right?

Look at the facts... Im willing to bet best buys employees are paid at least twice as much as costcos. They are a MUCH larger company. Some are paid on commission, and best buy is an overall nicer store. Im sure if it was the same exact tv... Id look at specs because theres a lot more to a tv than 1080 and its ", but if it was arch is probably right as to why its so cheap.

Philips sent a letter to all their dealers telling them about how Costco got a truckload of sets (similar to Wal-Mart getting Sony stuff a few years ago) the sets were all deemed stolen by Philips (all were refurbs anyway and were supposed to be sold to dealers at next to nothing). Costco has no service department, they get some repair guy from who knows where to do the service, they are rarely factory authorized (meaning they don't have access to the diagnostics) it's kind of like taking your camaro to a toyota dealer for service, they may be able to do it, but it may not be right in the end.

After going to the store last night and looking at them all running side by side... I think im going to go with the Samsung 42" 1080p LCD, the contrast is so much better than that insignia I was looking at. Its about a $400 difference though.

98CamaroZ28 Dec 29, 2007 08:40 PM

I looked at the samsungs and omg they are sexy, same with sony! so yea id say samsung is the right way to go. the only thing i dotn get is why sony cant makes decent speakers.

Because the only thing they actually make is picture tubes, and transistors. Their speakers are made by some cheap chinese company, and their lcd's are built by Sharp (the electronics are a mix of RCA, Panasonic, and Sharp)

Yeah Im glad you made that decision. Samsungs are ******* godly. I would have went with one instead of my toshiba if I had the extra money.. Their colors just look sooo good in HD.

Not to thread jack or anything... more of a question for arch, but if anyone else knows, chime in. I just picked up an HD antenna today after watching the game with one at work.. Problem is I only have 1 ant. input for cable. Is there some device around this so I can have my regular cable, and the antenna for HD channels hooked up at the same time?
