Looking For Part-Time Work

Hi my name is Darryl Saunders and I am 16 years old.

I love cars and am looking to get some part-time work geared around cars or motorcycles.

I live near Erin Mills and Dundas

drift_n_shift 02-13-2007 06:59 PM

here's my suggestion. make an email like darryl.saunders@hotmail.com ; its more professional that way instead of nascarmanic@....

oh, and spell/grammer check your resume and dont include stuff like i gathered pucks :retard: it doesnt make the task look good or whatever

not being a dick, but employers like it when they see stuff like this.

SuprAdam 02-13-2007 07:15 PM

That is a horrible resume.

This must be a joke, if not, then you should return to grade six.

nascarmaniac 02-13-2007 07:22 PM

Ya thanks for the bad criticism because it has showed me i displayed my "rough copy"

P.s. could u delete the first 2 post by drift and shift and super adam

Supra_RZ 02-13-2007 07:55 PM

i don't believe your 80% average.....that has to be the worst resume i have seen .............a student who gets 80% should have a better resume. For now ...go to McD's

Realistically, you have no apparent skills to speak of as far as cars and bikes go.

Interest is a plus, but interest without industry-related accomplishments puts you at square one. The smaller shops probably won't be able to offer you anything, but you may have a chance at one of the bigger new car dealerships as a car washer, lot jockey and general gopher guy. From there you might be able to work up over time.

But gopher guys are a dime a dozen. Be prepared to put in a lot of applications.

Queen and Spadina in the city. I think the current squeegee kid there is taking the season off.

nascarmaniac 02-13-2007 08:14 PM

in regards to skills should i include knowledge of tools? is that really a skill?

How bout the work I have done in auto shop at school, Ive worked on the tire machine, removed everything from radiator to alternator, catalytic converter, torn down an entire engine, hooked up a car to b e towed, balanced wheels. I completely forgot about auto shop it didn't make it into my resume.

obviously. gear your resume towards the job. if you apply for a cashier job, no need to put all that. if you are looking for a automotive type job, yes, put that in and be somewhat descriptive. to be honest, at 16 you arnt gonna get a job with cars, liek a mechanic. if you want to go into something with cars, apply to like canadian tire, but more importantly, although it wont pay, be an apprentice at a shop.

include knowledge of the squeegee....(e.x. how much water should be used, how often it should be changed, etc) :retard: :hypnotize

nascarmaniac 02-13-2007 08:35 PM

is the "new" resume any better?

nascarmaniac 02-13-2007 08:44 PM

So what suggestions now?

Hey does anyone else have suggestions?

TurboH22Civic 02-13-2007 09:25 PM

go to a big shope become an apprentice... do work for free learn the job and then after a year or two of butt kissin u mit eget lucky n offered a paying job. At 16 no shop is gonna trust you let alone pay you to work on customers cars. If you ask to do an apprentice and wrok for free and just shadow a professional you can learn alot more and if you do an amazing job they will most likely keep you and start you on a pay roll.

either way good luck

Ur Resume is Meh

Yo Darryl, your resume is pretty good but is also weak. I.E- ur attributes could use some improving and more detail. I fi can think of anything else I 'll repost .

TurboH22Civic 02-13-2007 09:27 PM

oh and

p.s. you are better off talkign straight up to a owner of a shop rather than just leaving ur resume there. The more persistent and annoying you are the more initiative you show the more u will stand out from teh other 1000 16 year olds who want to work on cars.

3nidapooh 02-13-2007 09:39 PM

i could have gotten u a job but most places u gonna need at least a g2 and be able to drive a manual car.

Dud if you like to work on cars dont get a job in that field. Get a job that you like but you make good money, so you can afford to play around with cars. The pay you get isint that good, and after doing it for like 10-15 years or so your back and what ever els will be screwed over from looking up at cars all day, Most places have no benifits and im sure this list could go on and on. But for a summer job go for it. but at your age you wont get a job unless you know someone, you have to have a g2, drive stick, and youll just be washing cars and oil changes ect. Your best bet would be to co-op at a shop and maby they will hire you for the summer. But really right know your asking for something that you just cant do right know. no dealer ship will want to trust a 16 year old with a 20,000$$ car even if you have a g2, I know how it is i was at that point was just like you except i had a decent resume but anyways good luck

Supra_RZ 02-13-2007 11:19 PM

Alright...i will stop being an ass......i was just like you , had no experience and wanted to work on cars. What do u do? at your school sign up for Co-op at a dealership. Once your in the dealership while doing Co-op work your ass of and show them your really good...and the just might hire you.....it sure as hell worked for me...............good luck

Young gun 02-14-2007 01:17 PM

1. this is the worst place to put ur resume

2. i hope you don't ever get serious into street racing now that everyone knows EVERYTHING about you

3. sry to say but that resume sounds pathetic man

4. so u dun't think i'm an ass, go apply at McDicks or Walmart, stick with it a few months, when you have experience make a new resume.

Ask them if there are any positions they can get you started on. Networks are a great resource for employment.

SLICKster00 09-25-2007 12:15 AM

Yo man, what you really need is a cover letter. Just a one page synopsis on why you want the job, your skills and contact info. THEN you put your resumé, I also suggest you segregate it. Have education in a different section. Also have things that relate to the job you are reply to. e.g work with cars, or took auto-shop....

He's got a good point, social networking is very important in landing a job, make friends with the people who work in the story where you wish to apply.

nascarmaniac 09-25-2007 09:33 AM

way to dig up an old post

everything here is so bad and out of date
