My sunday...

So the day started out with me going to my grandma's and grandpa's house. Before getting my job at Target, I would visit every single weekend and help them around the house with stuff they needed done and such. So after that, the guys called and said they were goin up to woodward, so here's some pics:

And now for the good part of the story:
Prelude -

Friday and Saturday we had no heat at Target, the heater broke so Saturday we were all wearing coats, hats, gloves, everything to stay warm because it was barely warmer in the store than it was outside.

Today -

So I walk in to the store today talking to a friend that I worked with at PETsMART that just so happened to be walking up to the store as I was, and there's an industrial blower in the entrance and the carpet is entirely damp. I'm like "WTF?" so I go punch in and talk to the guy that opened as cart attendant and he says that at 9:30am-ish, one of the pipes in the ceiling burst due to not having heat through the night. No one realized it until the water started building up in the ceiling and the ceiling tiles started falling to the floor with water going all over the place. By the time I got there at 4pm, everything was pretty much cleaned up, you could just see missing ceiling tiles and the damp carpet.

So I go take my lunch at 7:30, get my food and am up in the breakroom and I hear over the walkie talkies "We need all available employees upfront now. Drop whatever you're doing unless you're with a customer and immediately come to the front of the store!!!" in a really excited voice. I was like "WTF is going on?" Then right after "Lauren, how can we let the guests out? The water's all over in between the doors..." So, even though I was punched out for lunch, I came down to see what was going on. Turns out one of the sprinkler heads in the entryway between the doors (there's two sets of doors when you enter) had burst right off, and water was gushing into the entryway and then flowing both out the store and into the store in the front area. Customer's couldn't walk through there since it was obviously wet, and the team leaders were standing there dumbfounded like "Dur, what should I do?" so being the way that I am, I all take control of the situation and go over the walkie (mind you, I'm like the newest employee there and a total peon.. lol) "Lauren, go let the customers out through the fire exit by the stairway, Crystal go grab salt, I'll brave the gushing water and turn the doors off so people can't enter through the entryway" Haha, funny sight to see the biggest peon of the store bossing my supervisors around on how to take control of the situation. The salesfloor people literally grabbed all the towels they could carry and ran to the front of the store because the water was making it's way to the merchandise area. So yeah, needless to say, this weekend -- there hasn't been a dull moment working at Target!

I HATE it when something happens and people just stand around.

One day at work a woman was choking and everyone was just staring at her. So I yelled at on of my employee's to call 911 and I went over and did the hymlick(sp) and she coughed it up. She ended up being fine but it just pissed me off if I wasn't there she could have died because every employee and customer there would rather her die than try to help her out. And let's be honest, the hymlick(sp) is about the easiest thing to do.

what I love is they still have you all work

meissen 02-20-2006 04:32 PM

It was like 20 degrees out, it was definitely NOT warm lol. It was just sunny and such, so I guess they all decided to get out of the house and cruise with the heat on; I could only hang out for 15 minutes so I was there long enough to snap some shots, say hey to everyone, and then run off to work.

lol, sounds like fun. Couple of months ago, the power went out completely at work, so we all set around and played cards, and bs'd for a couple of hours and got paid to do it, plus it was Sunday premium pay, lol.
