Need DVD Burner and Software

Ok guys I need to buy a DVD burner for my desktop and the software needed to burn it onto the DVD as well as make the menu's and such(I already have a really good video editing program).
I have NO IDEA what to get other than dual layer so help me choose what I need. I don't want to spend to much but I want something good.

www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com right now has awesome deals on everything. I just picked up a 320 gig hard drive for $90.

Dual layered would be good, I personally think the disks are expensive, but thats me. Somthing like this would be good: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=M200-4212 but of course, you can go cheaper if need be. I think this is probably typical for what you would use it for.

First off I don't want an external one and I know you can get a cheaper one that'll work fine. My brother who's a software engineer and head of Motorola's security in Shamburg(sp) paid like $30 for his with software and he's happy with it.

As far as specs, you want one that will work with all formats, which isnt hard to come by as most of them do (DVD +/- DL, DVD +/- R, DVD +/- RW) so you can basically buy any kind of dvd disk you want.. I think generally DVD +R is for better video quality, and DVD -R is for more data type files... I really dont think it makes that big of a diference though, Ive burned DVDs with -Rs and they look just fine.

Then you wanna look at write speed too... I think the fastest youll get for a good price right now is 16x... I have 16x and 8x, and its not too big of a difference, but 16x is basically the same price now. If you really want to get into it, you can look at cache size too, but I think thats gonna bring up your price with the size. 2mb like the one you have should be fine. I think it all really depends on how long you want to wait for a dvd to be made haha. Just drink a chocolate milk while its being burned, and youll be fine

Thats basically what you need. Just make sure it supports the formats, and has good write speed. Software included is always a good bonus.

Check that out, I love the sonic software, but unfortuneatly it comes with nero, you could always buy the software, (or pm me and ill see if I can get you a copy of the software). Lite on is a good brand I currently have 2 of there drives.

True, nero isnt a bad program, I use it as well too.

Ive never tried to do chapters and such in sonic, I should experiment with that sometime.

Mike Jones 09-13-2006 11:26 AM

Ok I was playing around with the Nero software and I can't figture out how to make the main screen to the DVD or the chaper's menu and such. Am I missing something or does it just not have it?

paarman97maro 09-13-2006 11:31 AM

I dont know if nero does, not that I know of. Thats why Sonic was suggested, you can do it in that program.
