Need shipping advice!

Alrite well I am buying a "package" from a guy in New York state. It is being valued and insured as $1100 US. Now, how can I get around paying duty charges?

I think somebody said to use USPS to get around duty or brokerage fees? And also trying airmail? Which is the best company to use for shipping to give me the lowest fees? Package weighs 25lbs.

Reason I ask is because the seller is paying for shipping, and he may decide on selling the item to someone else (that resides in the states) because duty fees will make him end up loosing money. Thanks for any help...

you would be the one paying duty, not him.

why dont you just go pick it up (depending on where he lives in NY it would only be a short drive)

He lives in New York city so its going to be a 7-9 hour drive but I will see if he will meet me somewhere closer.

Having done a lot of buying/selling to the states (well not tons, but enough to know)..don't try screwing with the officers at the border, you're best to claim it, because the time you dont, you'll get ED so hard you won't know what to do with yourself..

It is a used car part. If they for some reason decide to search the car, I will tell them it was always in there. What are they going to do? Tell me that it wasnt? That would be like them searching the car and finding a half eaten pack of gum and then making me pay duty on that even though it was always in there.

Besides, last time I went down there we crossed the border going in and out of the states no questions asked. And that was in a modded supra running open downpipe with the hatch full of bags/boxes of tools/food/drinks.

That's what the stop in Scranton is about. We convinced our waitress to come back to Canada with us.

I want to see if she ever made it back.

My roadtrips are always an adventure.

If it ends up being shipped, dont use UPS. FOr whatever reason every time i had something come over the border by them it ended up costing me double. Literally. I am not exaggerating. I had a 30 dollar part come in and it cost me 58 after fees

USPS will only charge you tax as far as I know. Maybe more expensive items are charged extra fees. I dont know.

I understand that if the item is shipped as a "warranty item" you will not be required to pay anything.

Don't know you, but I have a few reliable friends in Niagara Falls NY that will glady hold the package for you. PM me if you need help. I've smuggled transmissions over from the states with no problem. When it comes to used parts or even new for that matter, you will be surprised with what you can get away with.
