A new pope has been elected.

Now how many of you actually care that a new pope was elected today?

NoRiceInside 04-20-2005 12:05 AM

not me but i saw it on TV in my 3rd period. what i think is stupid is how he has a name...then they name him something totally different...i mean the last pope was pope john and this one is pope benedict? and its the 16th! where do they get that from!

robluvs2xlr8 04-20-2005 12:06 AM

the media is going to attack the pope soon, from what im watching on CNN

NoRiceInside 04-20-2005 12:08 AM

not me. I am not into organized religion, or religion in general for that matter.

I'll just be glad when all the Pope-media stuff is gone.

archemedes 04-20-2005 02:21 AM

too bad we'll go through it again in a couple years the guys 78 so how long before the stress gets to him

meissen 04-20-2005 07:12 AM

Yeah, that's the worst part about it... back before Pope John Paul II, they changed popes every few years, if the pope even lasted that long... I was watching the History Chan and they had a thing about the history of popes and what not, didn't see the whole thing but the tail end they went through like 6 popes in the matter of 10 minutes... "This one was elected, died in his apartment a 9 months later..." They elected another guy and he died a year later, etc... then they elected Pope John Paul II because he was young and athletic. I'm atheist and all, but I do find the whole thing interesting... I'm anxious to see a Pope that isn't a complete idiot, from what I've heard about this guy he is too. Ah well, when a Nazi guard can make it as Priest, you know there's something wrong... but isn't the prime minister of austria or something from the Nazi army?

I said that as soon as I heard he was german was kinda funny

meissen 04-20-2005 12:53 PM

Yeah. First I heard he was a guard at Auschwitz (sp?) but now they're saying a guard at a german ammo depot, whatever he was he was still a nazi...

SLPowerZ 04-20-2005 01:32 PM

not good, i wonder what grant thinks about all this....he was running for pope wasn't he??

RFF 04-20-2005 01:36 PM

Just cause someone served in the German armed forces does not make them the stereo typical Nazi.

SLPowerZ 04-20-2005 01:47 PM

well its not fair to stereotype anyone, but what would the sterotypical nazi be? i mean hitler was the sick brain behind what happened during the late 1930s and early 40s, most of the troops were just following their orders, whether they agreed w/ them or not

SLPowerZ 04-20-2005 01:49 PM

its hard to have your own opinion if ur a soldier during a war, if you don't follow orders you could face severe punishment, or at least thats what i hear

RFF 04-20-2005 01:50 PM

The Nazi name was nothing more then a name given to a political party, kind of like the way we have democrats and republicans here in the US.
