both man....both fo' sho', well more scared of how badly they'll screw this up. i think if they want to bring back a legend they need to also bring back the bird....sorry but it is kind of like pb and jelly, you can't have one without the other. just my opinion.

If it has 4 doors, GM will pay dearly.

meissen 07-03-2005 08:50 PM

Definitely won't have 4 doors. As one of the head designers in Chevy stated (I'm guessing that he was a head designer, as he said he reported directly to the vice president),

Meissen: "You know, so many people are complaining about it being a retro. In my opinion, it's a Camaro, as long as it looks good and has the theme of a Camaro, that's all that counts..."
"Rev": "Did you know the Vice President owns a 1969 Camaro?" *slight smirk at the hint*
Meissen: "I suppose he really likes that year."
"Rev": "Yeah, I just got back from a design conference for Chevy performance, and let me say they had one car there that was absolutely gorgeous."
Meissen: "Oh yeah? I heard Scott S. said he was there too, and he left with a very large grin on his face.."
"Rev": "Just make sure you go to the NAIAS this January 2006, and be sure you go straight to the concept section..."
Meissen: "No kiddin', AutoExtremist just posted an article about how it wouldn't be a surprise if the Camaro is at the NAIAS 2006."

I don't remember what we were talking about, but he made the comment "Oh, it's definitely all Camaro" when he was talking about it. He also said that he thinks he knows more about it than Scott does, haha. I knew he was jeopardizing a lot with what he already said, so I didn't pry much harder... you could tell he wanted to say so much more but was holding back. But, he invited my dad and I to a car show on the 20th, so I'll definitely be talking to him some more.

Funny story, though. In the beginning of the conversation, my dad was saying "Yeah, Brian showed me the concepts of the 5th gen, and let me tell you they're gorgeous" and omg  He freaked out and wanted to know where I got the pictures and from who and where I found them and everything, I was like "No! no! No! Renderings, digital renderings that artists had done of what they WANT the 5th gen to look like!!" And then he cooled off. Also, apparently that cleveland_e.pdf file REALLY did make it far into GM because he knew EXACTLY what presentation I was talking about and about it being posted publicly.

retro sells, new cars look like they were designed by cookie cutter (that's how I feel about the 4th gen it's the worst design looks wise)

And the cookie cutter theory could be applied to the cars from the 60's and 70's (a lot of them have the same basic look).

not really they had designers for each car line (very few cars even shared a chassis) until the mid '70s

joshp01 07-04-2005 02:21 AM

So you dont like 4th gens huh???

archemedes 07-04-2005 02:37 AM

not that I don't like them, they are f bodies after all, it's just they don't have the character cars used to have. Not to mention I'm sick of all teh fbody sites being almost exclusivly 4th gen

Most of the classics are owned by older Americans and I have learned the majority of those people tend to not like computers.
