If you guys want a chatroom, I can install an integrated chatroom for vbulletin... it'd run off my personal IRC server that I have.

I like the idea but I don't like it running off your server. I want the site to be completely self reliant.

Well it has to run off of someone's server, it's an IRC network. You have to connect to something, usually irc.(insert name here).com so you're stuck being reliant there, the only difference between mine and a more popular network (IE: irc.dalnet.com or irc.everywherechat.com etc) is that because they're so popular, the common usernames will be taken. It's ran off my computer in the basement, it's pretty secure and the uptime thus far has been a good month.

Why couldn't we run it off my server?

Most of the time, you'll have to pay an extra fee to have a service ran off a server. It's physically an .exe file that's running on a computer that creates the IRC network. I have a spare "server" computer in the basement which is running Windows 2003 Server, Active Directory, an IRC Server, and other toys. You could run the IRC server off your own computer, you'd have to setup the configuration file and all that, but it's not too difficult to do... only bad part is that if you turn your comp off, you'll have problems. With my "server" computer, it's always on 24/7. I don't think HostGator will run an IRC service, and I know they won't do it for free, either. Normally running an IRC service is left for companies and such... i'm just a computer dork enough to find the program I need, setup the config files and get the right software for it. Heck, I'm a big enough dork to be running Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition on my home computer lol.
