Probably Starting AFM Next Year

We were doing a newbie group ride last weekend were some of us more experienced riders (motorcycle) would mentor 1 or 2 people who only very recently bought motorcycles. Teach them about safety and what to look out for, hand singles what not. Anyways afterwards I went to my friends house, who was also a mentor, had a few beers and chatting away. Anyways here in the bay area we have a lot of group rides can find one pretty much all the time definetly on the weekends. AFM (American Federation of Motorcyclists) and AMA (American Motorcycle Association) riders also attend a lot of the time which is awsome. So us being friends we talk about each other even if we are not there. He said hes had a few people talking to him about me that already race in either AFM or AMA telling him "I should go out and try to race" "**** that kids fast he should race" yada yada yada (not trying to suck my own **** at all I honestly thought about it before but never thought I was fast enough, not that you should be going that fast on the streets but ya) . So i told him i thought about it before, but once again never thought i was fast enough, just too expensive 5-10k a year if you dont put her down, hell if i put my bike down once hard ill be out for the season. He said tell you what, ill put up half the cost, and ill put up my bike, ill try to find you some sponsors since i found some for myself but you and i both know if they think im fast enough to do it you definetly are. I told him that sounds nice n all but i dont like driving other peoples cars much less racing other peoples motorcycles. I just dont like the added responsability. I wont go balls out if i know i have to bring somebodys bike back in 1 piece, not that i plan on crashing but the likely hood of you crashing a motorcycle by itself is high much less racing one. He said well put up both of our bikes then, race mine if you put it down you put it down dont worry about it i know the risk, well have a back up bike. Im like ya but mines a 750 yours is a 1000, what about the classes, he said somethin which i dont remember but itll work :lolsign: . Told him id think about it. So Id like to know what you guys think on this mater?

Sounds like this guy has a lot of confidence in you. Maybe you are faster than you think. If he believes in you that much (and it sounds like he knows his stuff), I think you should go for it.

my cousin does that with ama ..well he used to he now is an instuuctor.. he raced at road america with all the factory riders and they had 14 to 15 seconds a lap faster then him... and hes not that slow... those guys just have balls... if u were in there line and they wanted it they would come next to u and kick you... im just saying that when you start start with some amatur races, be careful, and ull be fine
