Repost from T.S.C. (meeting with MPP Donna Cansfield -> HTA)

I can't make it out, but somebody needs to go out there and show some support!
A week or so ago I made this thread ( http://www.toronto-subaru-club.com/f...d.php?t=101225 ) to determine if there was interest in discussing the new Highway Traffic Act that is currently being formulated. I received a lot of interest and here is the chance to show how serious you are about your criticism of the new Highway Traffic Act.
OK ... Good news and bad news …
The good news is that I spoke with Mrs. Cansfield's staff this afternoon and she is enthusiastic about this meeting of automotive enthusiasts to discuss the very controversial Highway Traffic Act and the new powers police will be given to enforce “anti street racing” laws.
The bad news is that her time is extremely limited in the next couple of weeks and the only date and time she has available is not the most convenient. I asked her to hold the date for a week to see if we can get sufficient people to take advantage of this opportunity.
Date: Thursday May 24th, 2007
Time: 2:30-3:30PM
Location: 4800 Dundas Street West (@ Islington) in my restaurant (see http://www.ristorantepinocchio.com/contact.htm for a map)
I know this is not the best time and that people have jobs that may prevent them from attending. This is however a very important issue that many of us are very passionate about and the opportunity to try and make a political impact is not that common.
I will extend the invitation for 7 days to see how much interest we can get. Please do not say you will come if you cannot make it as I would be extremely embarrassed if I wasted her time and not have anyone show up. She is only doing this because I know her personally and is willing to do me a favour.
The restaurant can accommodate many people so please extend this invitation to other car/motorcycle clubs and to people who would like to speak and ask questions regarding the New Highway Traffic Act.
PM me your contact info if you are interested in this opportunity within the next 7 days.

Does anybody have any stats on people actually killed in "organized street racing" ?
Here's the bill in question...
Bill C-19: An Act to amend the Criminal Code (Street Racing) and to make a Consequential Amendment to the Corrections and Conditional Release Act
The definitions in the three bills require that two or more motor vehicles be involved. As did Bill C-65, Bill C-19 uses the expression “operating a motor vehicle in a race with at least one other motor vehicle” (emphasis added). The proposed definition therefore does not seem to include a race against the clock, in which only one motor vehicle is involved.(
