service pack installation
im trying to download service packs from microsoft.com and i tried service pack 1,2, and 3. every time it goes through the whole thing and at the end it says the expected version of microsoft 2000 was not found on your computer. whats this mean and why is it saying that? i have MS 2000 Professional and it already includes service pack 2 it says. any ideas?

try updating first... see if you can get patches, or any updates besides 2000.. it might be a glitch or somthing that isnt allowing you to... by saying that you dont have the expected version, im assuming you need to patch your system because theres an updated version... try it out

or it may find you have a pirate copy, they are not updating pirated editions (if the serial number shows up on multiple machines it throws a flag)

Mine have updated without issue so I'd see if it's a legit copy like Arch said.

well it used to work when i installed SP 3 a while ago, but since then i have reformatted my computer a few times but every time i have deleted everything from my old windows and installed it again but yes i have used the same serial number. you think thats the problem? ive reformatted like 5 time already. computers old and slow so it doesnt take much to completely mess it up.

the reformatting may have caused an issue, reinstall windows don't reformat just install windows (reformating is very hard on the hard drive, it actually wears it out faster)using the same number on the same computer isn't usually an issue. You may be missing a file

How old is it? Do you know any specs on it? If so, list them. If its not that old, you shouldnt have a problem with reformatting, ive done it many many times, and never had an issue. Did you try downloading the patches?
