t/a maybe?

well i have found a 82 t/a with a 86 305 tpi its t toped and the guy was hooking up nitrous (but i think hes taking that out when he sells it). and i have been wanting a project car for a long time now and think it would be a good drag car but i suck at internet so i was hoping one of u would know some specs and what not and any flaws they had i havent see nthe car yet im going to see it tuesday but for 300 bucks i cant really go wrong if it runs and will take a sticker rite

the 305 is notorious for eating cams, the t tops kill body rigitity for drag racing. for 300 bucks as long as there is no rust or structural issues it's a good deal

Tpi = no good for the drag strip

87RS 09-03-2006 11:24 PM

just ceriouse what causes them to eat cams? and would sub frame conectors bring back the rigidity needed? and y id the tpi bad

tpi runs out of steam in upper rpm's. The cam issue not sure, but they do eat lobes. There are aftermarket runners for the tpi that will make it work pretty good (better than a carb anyway) the only way to get enough rigity in the car again is a full roll cage with the subframe connectors (I have seen a couple 3rd gens that had t tops that have broken the welds on subframe connectors from teh roof twist)

Or you could put a holley steath ram on the motor. Since the car is already tuned port you will only need to buy the plenum, intake, fuel rail, and afpr. all that totals up to about $400 and completely cures the TPI major weakness.
