tonight at work
 

ok well i have a pretty boring job so this is the biggest thing that has happened there since ive been there i just thought id share it.

well since gas prices hit the roof my boss has been telling us to watch for drive offs. so tonight i seen someone in a red jeep cherokke (sp?) get 73.00 worth of gas and for some reason i just kept watching them. well they didnt come in and pay, instead they got in their vehicle and backed up. the first thing i did was grab my keys and hell at my co-worked.. "watch this ***** on pump 8" so when the jeep started to turn around i jumped in my car and took off. i chased this car at probably 80mph (on some little country roads so 80 felt like 110) for about 5 miles. finally i get close enough to read the license plate but the ***** had ducktape over it. so eventually the jeep gave up and pulled over. to my suprise it was a girl about 18 years old that got out almost trying asking me not to call the cops. she said that she would come back and pay for it. well i didnt wanna take a chance so i got her to take the tape off her plate and called in her plate number to my co-worker. well i called my boss as asked him what he wanted me to do about it and he said he would talk to her. so 5 mintues AFTER we closed the girl shows up to pay for it, she was late so we already called her plates in :nana: . the girl said she just got scared and was coming back to pay anyways... ya... right...

i figured i share the story because it was just a good chance for my to give my car a little hell for a good cause. my boss said that i could add an extra hour to my pay which is only 6.30 :banghead: . but playing cops and robbers was fun.

How do you "run" off with it? Dont you have to slide your ATM card threw the machine or feed the pump bills first before the pump even works?

All we have to do here is hit a button that says pay inside and lift up the thingy and it starts to pump.. So it would be preety easy to run off with gas here.

ya thats what we do. we dont really have a lot of problems with people running off tho most people are honest..

you guys don't authorize the pumps? they have to turn them on inside here.You got lucky, running after someone is a great way to end up dead

Your stations over there are just asking for trouble if you do it that way. I'd find a new job if i were you.

ya we authorize all the pumps but they have to hit pay inside before we can do it. ya i wasnt scared when i was chasing her but i figured when she stopped that i was about to get shot.

yeah it would be easy, but now i wont try it when we got aarontracys out there kickin *** ;)

to arch: we just hit pay inside, then they authoize, and you fill up with gas... when you are done you just go inside and pay

You can just hit pay inside, and pump, then pay, but if it's after 10pm, you have to go inside, pay, then come back out and pump.

see here the station owners have enough sense to make you pay first (no matter what time of day)

Would be a bit annoying also.. I allways accidently go a few cents over what I ment to pump.. so would you ahve to go back into the store and give the a few pennys?

the pump shuts off at the amount you specify, the hard part is if you want to fill up.

thats gay. here, you dont even have to hit pay inside. you lift the nozzle and select what octane you want then just hold the handle down and let off at what u want then go inside and pay. very easy to steal gas but not many people do.

gas driveoffs account for a few hundred million dollars annually, it's either prepay or pay more for everything

that pay first thing would get very annoying. They do that around here at some of the stations, and those are the stations that I never used because that is a pain in the rear going in to pay first when I don't know how much I need in the first place. But now, I always use a debit, it really isn't a problem, but I still don't go to those ones anyway.

I use a debit card to pay so it doesn't matter to me anyway, but I do understand it (it tends to be the more rural areas don't have the prepay since crime tends to be lower)

i wish i knew our driveoff totals per month i bet we have atleast $100-$200 a month in drive offs and since ive worked there which is a year and 1/2 ive only caught 2 ppl which was last night (73.01) and about 3 months ago this punk that came in there tried to get away $5.00 but i got him before he got out of the parking lot. we've had 2 people (dont get any ideas) but they would pump gas and lay the handle on the ground so it wouldnt come up on the register and then they would take off. i really wish we made people pay inside because that would eliminate all drive offs but im from a very small community and i just dont think that would go over very well.
