CityNews: GTA Drivers Warned Of Multiple Weekend Road Closures

What a bizarre month June has been for beleaguered drivers. So far, they've had to endure impossible gas prices, endless accidents, and a weekend when both the DVP and the Gardiner were closed for a charity race.

And this Saturday and Sunday won't be much a picnic either.

The perfect storm of special events is coming together to create new roadblocks that will see some major routes out of commission for several hours or more.

The big three:

Taste of Little Italy

This delicious morsel of the old country takes place on College St., and the busy road will be closed in both directions from Bathurst to Shaw until Monday morning at 3am

Find out more about the festival here.

Next comes the Highland Creek Heritage Festival and Parade which will tie up Old Kingston Road from Watson to #404 Old Kingston Rd., and Morrish from Kingston to Bush Gate on Saturday from 8am-6:30pm.

That's the big one, but there are others. Here's the timeline of when you won't be able to get where you need to go:

Conference Blvd./Clemes Dr. to Lawson Rd. 9am-12:30pm
Parade route: Centennial Rd. to Lawson Rd., over the bridge to Kingston Rd., along Old Kingston Rd. to Watson Rd. 11am-12pm

Finally there's the Father's Day 5K Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer, a great cause that will cause a great slowdown for those trying to drive around the Distillery District.

The run goes south on Cherry and east on Commissioners before turning around on Carlaw Ave. And then they'll reverse course and go back in the opposite direction. You won't be able to get by the affected routes from 9:30am to about noon on Sunday.

If there's any good news in all this, it's a prediction from gas watchdog MP Dan McTeague that the price of gas will drop by 1.8 cents a litre for the weekend, making it a little cheaper to take those alternate routes.
