what to do on a student budget?
hey guys, i know im pretty young to own a car(18), but I'm just trying to get some information. I know the sales on forums are all private, but I was wondering if you guys know of any way that i could get a used car and pay it off monthly? kinda like financing? thing is : i don't want to go to a dealership because i want a used car that is a few thousand dollars. (like maybe around 5 k)
I'm running a student budget and I want a car so I can travel from school, work, home, and occasionally taking my dog to the vet ...basically daily driver, and sometimes i just like to take random drives for fun =P. Reason i want my own car though, is because im paying $100 a month to my parents (not bad at all) for insurance on their 08 City Golf, but they're not letting me take it out to take out my girlfriend or anything. so I kinda feel like I'm wasting my money...anyway any advice/comments/suggestions would be great! thakns! |
Line Of Credit.. or try and soak your school for some bursary money.
or around 5k you could get yourself a nice car, avoid a civic unless you want to be profiled by every douche cop in town. Do you want a 4door? Honestly, $100 isnt bad because once you step up to the plate on your own, you will be paying the piper... insurance, maintenance, gas, cost of car etc... |
4 door? i wouldnt mind.
hopeful preferences in types of cars would be tegs (94 and up) ek or eg hatch back ek coupes are okay too. i just want manual car at stock or at minimal mods certed and saftied but until i find a way to finance a car, i'm not gonna start looking cause there are some nice used cars on this forum >_> |
lol im 19, i have a 03 325i bmw, i pay 4 bills a month for the car myself (finance). ...im kidna surviving, definitely regret geting such a expensive car for my age. (school + work = deadly) .
id say i shudve settled for something cheaper. i think you shud too. don't follow the same mistake i did hahah... but then, driving a bimmer definitely is more fun then all the honda and acuras, makes me unique too. |
so by financing did you go to a dealership or did you just a LOC or loan or something?
|
ya i bought my car at a used car dealer (stupid mistake) also. taxes, financing fees all owned me + interest aswell. lol. sadly the car is not under my name, and it never will. i still need to borrow money from osap and they will deny me if i own a car. gaurenteed.

Are you upside down on the loan? If not try selling it, buy something cheaper and when your out of school have held done a job for a year and make the right ammount of cash to own one and not stress over it go one.

Cadence..this is really not worth it....if anything i would save up for about a year
1500 is what i could consider a good amount of $$ to start with financing a car at your age is a gutsy move..what if you get injured or as many people are currently getting laid of somewhat can't keep up with the car payements?...financing is just trouble unless you got a reliable source of income not to mention it could screw up your record score |
being 18 doesnt mean anything.
By the time I was 19 I has a WRX swapped 93 impreza making 350hp. I did this all on my own without any money from my parents. I just turned 22 and I own a 2004 STI pumping out over 500hp, and I did this all on a student budjet as I started building cars when i was 16, and I just kept buying, building, and selling until I got what I finally wanted (granted the STI i saved from the salvage yard, it was still an STI and I built it to how I wanted) Start small and work your way up. |
