Sounds like a form of a debit card to me.

archemedes 03-09-2005 09:18 PM

radio shack is supposed to sell them, check www.mastercard.com they have a thing for the prepaid cards and where to buy in your area

RFF 03-09-2005 09:20 PM

Does it help your credit (I'm guessing no)?

archemedes 03-09-2005 09:22 PM

no but you can get one to buy stuff online with no credit (or opening up a checking account to the internet) they are a little safer

jamilz28 03-09-2005 09:30 PM

Have you tried Capital One? I didn't have any credit but they offered me one (with a $300 limit of course).

As far as the prepaid credit cards, I have heard of them.....but I am not sure where do get them. Why not just use a debit card?

I need to get a credit card for my hosting site, I need a credit card to open merchant accounts and I already have a private account on paypal, they won't let you use the same credit card twice on two seperate accounts on paypal (which is relieving, to say the least, but also annoying in this case) so cheers for asking about this!

gotta be 18 to get one (legally) same with a check card under federal guidelines (which a few banks are ignoring and getting in trouble)

Yeah, Capital One is great place to get credit going. It was my second one, and hy husbands first, and he had like no credit at all when he got it.
