The Beijing Benz-Daimler Corporation has begun production of its "BJ2022 Brave Warrior" SUV for use by the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Shown here at the 2006 Beijing Auto Show, the 1/2- and 3/4-ton vehicle is powered by a 3.5-liter turbo diesel producing 136 horsepower. The four-wheel-drive offroader has a maximum payload of 1,653 lbs., can ford 23.6 inches of water and has an available 110-inch wheelbase. Compare that to the Hummer H1's 184-inch wheelbase or even the Jeep Grand Cherokee's wheelbase of 186.7 inches. The BJ2022 has been in development since 2002 and it replaces the Russian GAZ-based BJ2020. More photos and background info after the jump. I think I have a crash test somewhere of a Chinese ripoff of a late 90's Chevy Blazer. It crunpled like cheap tinfoil. I'll try and dig it up.
