Best Anti-Virus Software?
Lately my computers been lagging like a pos. I think i'm gonna re-load it soon, but before I do, I would like to know what is the best anti-virus software to use?
I currently run an expired norton 2006, which came with my computer, but when i re-load it, i will have a 3 month trial again. Instead of going this route, I'm wondering what a good anti-virus is? AVG free? Norton? :dunno: |
im runnin avg free right now it seems to be doin it but check norton n see how it works its then jus go to avg
|
i would recommend Norton Corp edition!
|
Norton sucks balls.... They used to be great... now their software is just bloated and I find the updates aren't all that good.
I highly recommend NOD32.... It's ultra small, uses little resources and updated don't expire. |

for Free AntiVirus AVG is the way to go.
Panda is good as well for Home use. Symantec (Norton) is good for Corporate Networks as they have great tools for scanning multiple computers, but for home use, Norton Home Blows. |
Panda is really good....

I hate norton...1998 I came up with a line "Damn you Norton" after I tried to uninstall norton software from a computer..but it would just keep coming back or have parts of it linger. I'm willing to bet if you uninstall norton your computer will become a little less laggy.
Norton Corporate Edition is better but still. I like: AVG free Nod32 lot of ppl also use: Avast! Panda Fprot And zonealarm isn't an antivirus..it's a firewall. If your computer has issues...here's what you do. Get this free stuff...install/run scans with Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot, Windows Defender, AVG Free, Bazooka Scanner. If this doesn't fix your problems...then good luck. After you fix everything use Firefox with the adblocker addon and ditch Internet Explorer...and your life will suddenly be easier. |
Get Spy Sweeper and Windows live one care.. im running dat an have no problems wit it.
|
ive used both avast and avg, and right now im usiung avg and i find the computer ran smoother and faster with avast installed
|
Symantec Corporate Edition 2006
|
does anyone have any links to get some of this software for free?

Just an FYI from a serious experienced Techy. Any virus software you install is a bad idea. Heres why. You want your ports closed. Anti-Virus software opens ports to stay updated and to allow com flow to main databases for virus definitions and reporting. Make sure your windows is up to date and if you can and have XP make sure you have SP2 and have the firewall on. Then uninstall ALL antivirus software. Monthly go to the site Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan using IE not Mozilla. It uses a java based client and doesnt open the ports in your system.
A lot of you think im crazy but I havent had an anti-virus program in 3 years and still have NO viruses to date. Think about, Bill gates owns 40% shares of Norton, McAfee started through MAC, when a virus comes out WHOS the first people to have the fix? And WHY in the world would millions of people sit around all day making viruses for the world? Installing anti virus software is jsut as silly as intentionally installing spyware. A healthy one month scan and a healthy one month spyware search is all one needs. Dont support the makers of viruses by buying their fixes. Food for thought! |
good info there, for those of us who are less computer smart, can you tell us how to close ports? i still wanna use my azureus and msn so i dunno if thatll have an affect or not.

I like nod32 for a program that isn't free and for a free program i like avast:smilie_da

Having AV software installed is just good practice. You may have gone 3 years without a Virus, but in general most people are not as cautious as they should be, and this is how they end up infected. |
I dont understand how people have virus problems... Ive always had some form of antivirus software and spyware program and Ive NEVER had a virus problem....
...EVER!! For as long as I have had a home computer with the internet over 10 years ago. Never once have I had a virus..... ...and this is after using various download P2P software (Napster, multiple versions of Kazaa for many years) AND I still use Limewire. So the idea that virus software actually causes the problem is stupid, and the idea of not having virus software is also stupid!! |
mac os x

It is not impossible, Macs are as susceptible to viruses as PC's are, it is just that there is 1000 times more viruses for PC's. Currently most reputable AV Packages guard against around 19,000 Viruses, and about 1500 for Macs.
Viruses for Macs are different from PCs in how they attack the system, most viruses for Macs are Macro Viruses that get implanted in Word Documents or Excel sheets, or other Mac Programs. Do not fall into the hype that it is impossible for a Mac to get a Virus, it is like saying my Car will never catch on fire. It is not impossible, just very unlikely. |

norton is too bundle and hogs up memory resources. Programs like AVG is small and compact and does the job. I use AVG anti virus + Spy bot seach and destroy and it does the job.
sorry to forget mention both programs are under 10mb. norton is about 250mb. hope that helps |
NOD32 all the way
|
im using combo of mcafee and spyware doctor with no problems. i always feel like i need both, though im not sure of the actual necessity
|
AVG, free, low resource usage
Really you just have to be careful when you surf online. |
what about McCafee
|
I recommend the Zone Alarm suite. Ive been running it on my computer without problems and its been catching alot of crap found on pcs these days.
|
NOD32 or kaspersky
|
AVG ! :headbang:
|
The best anti virus is non at all. There is no point installing and antivirus program it jus slows down your computer. And they dont really prevent minor virus. IF you do start up your computer one day and notice somethings weird jus use system restore.
|
Zone Alarm and AVG
|
If you want free, go with Zone Alarm.
|
i need a new 1
