dlink router not transmitting

ive got a dlink wireless router and the last couple days its been acting up. we changed our internet provider, i set it up, it worked, and i dunno if my brother ****ed with somethign to get his world of warcraft to work with whatever crap hes running it on but my connection strenth is piss poor. the router sits on top of my desk and ive got my computer setup to connect wirelessly and im showing zero bars of signal strength. and in the next room are my ps3 and laptop and neither have a connection. this thing is less than a year old, is it common for it to be ****ed already? im connected wirelessly right now on my pc and it hink the only reason its working is beacuse the antennas are 3 feet apart. but even this lags a bit. any help would be great

do yourself a favor and get a Linksys WRT54GL :)

anyhow.. try hard resetting your router or flashing a new firmware.

yeah its randomly kicking off. i had a linksys that crapped out on me and it was fantastic. i could surf the net the next block over whereas the dlink isnt all that strong. how do i hard reset it? jsut yank the power cord?

hard reset is by holding the reset button for about 15-20 seconds. you will see 2 lights flash after about 15 seconds.

thanks. gonna have to do that. ive dug up my old linksys, same model number ou mentioned. tested it and apparantly it works. i just need a power supply for it.

so here somehting weird. the net works unless i try to play live with the ps3 or the 360. then it signs me out and i have to manually reset the modem and the router. how weird is that. any thought?

Bell highspeed or Cable ?

Isnt there a Time To live feature in the setup for Bell......

judgez24 10-04-2008 07:42 AM

used to be with bell and i had no issues at all. changed over to primus and i had to change some router settings around and now tings got srewedup. my brother plays warcraft when he comes by on wekends and i know he was playing with the router so i ended up clering evrything from it and resetting the unit and i was able to get the 360 back on line. but not the ps3. itll connect and the internet connection test will come back good and then when i try to play cod4 online itll wait a few minutes and then give me a server error and kick me off the net.

i didnt ever see a feature like that with bell.

i think its just your router that doesnt allow you to play while connected on pc. i have a dir-625 and its supposed to identify gaming traffic and optimizes it while still keeping other connections on. try downloading a newer firmware for ur current one and see what happens but dont let the power cut while ur doing it cuz then u will need a new one

my dlink has been getting similar issues... reset button works wonders tho...

judgez24 10-04-2008 02:47 PM

did the reset button hih is how the 360 got back online. im gonna try to open up the firewall on it to allow the ps3 through. my buddy started rambling on about that so i just smiled and nodded and if that doesnt work ill hook up the linksys

I just went through this problem...kinda. I have a DIR-615 that is fed from the ISP, has 2 computers hardwired to it and runs wireless. Then I have another hardwire running to the basement into another router (WBR-2310) which feeds my ps3 and computer. I was having major issues with having to reset the DIR-615 all of the time. Then the PS3 started saying "problem with DNS server" unless I checked and un-checked GAMING mode on the 192.168.0.1 page every time, and then it resets and works fine until the next time i turned the PS3 on. Anyways, I had to disable DHCP server and assign IP address' to each computer and console, then add each IP address into the server page. That worked with wired and wireless. I may sound like a nerd, but I learned all of this in the last couple of days. I was sick of calling Linksys all of the time and spending hours on the phone with idiots who I can't understand. So I went to Chapters and bought "home networking for DUMMIES". It was on sale for $24, buy it if you never want to call customer service again.

thanks for the info. my buddy was reccomending that i do the same thing. ive got a temporary fix. my neighbour has a pretty strong internet signal in my basement so i connected to him with the ps3 and its working great. pretty damn weird though. if i can get some time ill try your idea and see if i can get it to work from here

kev77 05-13-2009 12:23 PM

maybe ur router is old and bogging down . i bought a new router for this reason.

judgez24 05-18-2009 07:36 AM

yeahthe dlink is gone, i found my old linksys same as the model mentioned above, it worked great until we switch to cable and then it stopped, so now i have a brand new linksys wireless n router. works awsome, super fast and setting it up is a joke

kev77 05-18-2009 11:32 AM
