I prefer Nikon because I like their selection of lenses better

I shoot Nikon. Don't dislike Canon, I actually prefer their Point and shoot cameras. Reason I like Nikon, is because of the great build quality, Good lens selection, and other small things that helped my decision like, most of the Nikon lenses ship with leather cases, and hoods, the camera bodies themselves all ship with covers for the hotshoe, and LCD cover. Also, the Nikon creative lighting system allows me to use Flash guns not only mounted to the body, but also off-camera without having to buy triggers or switches, it triggers through the on-board flash. Pointless things to many people, but they made my decision easier.

Either way, you cant go wrong with either Canon or Nikon.

There are a bunch of different DSLR cameras, for a decent setup, you can expect to pay anywhere from $600 to $1500 depending on the Body/Lens combination you pick.

I prefer Nikon over Canon... But if I could get a Canon DSLR for cheap I would def. grab it...

I currently use a Fuji s9000 series, its not bad because I got it for dirt cheap.

i just bought a canon rebel xs. absolutly love it. priced same as the d60. infact got it on sale for $545 a couple weeks ago down from $600. i played with both. both have basically the same features. both do the same. the canonc selling point was the live view which i use from time to time. both have a perk or two that the other doesnt. another thing i found while playing with both is that the canon seemed to take nicer pictures when viewed on the screen. just a bit clearer and brighter.

had it for 2 weeks now, ive snapped almost 2300 pictures with it already. absolutly love this thing

I think that is the main reason I have mostly bought canons for my entire life. I need to get an upgrade myself though and I am thinking about going DSLR but it would be a large change for me. Its more of a family/vacation/random parties cam that I need, nothing too beefy.
