Ethernet cales... Which to get?
 

Hey I was searching for some ethernet cables and Ive found out a little bit of the differences from cat5 cable and cat6.

Is it worth the $$$ to go cat6? Or is Cat5 enough?

Im gonna be using this cable just to connect my ps2 to the internet thats in my room. Im gonna be getting a 100ft cable and the price difference is ALOT from cat5 to cat6. So is it really better to go for cat6?

Or am I good with cat5? I'm just gonna run the ps2 off it...

but 100ft is pushing the limits of ethernet.... why so long? Will u really need it all?

My computer + router is in my living room which is approx 60feet with the wire being in the middle of the floor the whole way. I'm going to be tucking the wire to the side so that it looks "cleaner". I don't want it to look messy in my hallways:thumbsdow

You think 75foot would be enough then?

Ive read on google and it says not to run anything longer then 320feet so 100 feet should be good no?

The Limit for Ethernet Cable is 100M by the book. You can make Cable over that work, but the reliability and Speed is compromised possibly (I have 3 runs here at work pushing 150m Each, and they have been fine for the past 3 years)

Cat6 is only useful if you are running Gig Ethernet, which the Playstation doesn't support, so there is no need to go for it. Even if the PS2 did support Gig Ethernet, there is no point as your Internet Connection is likely no more than 5Mbps, so why would you want a connect running at 1000MBps, it would make no Difference over a network running at 100MBps.

Also make sure you do not bend the cable too tight as the wires in the Cable are less than 1/8" thick and can break very easily, and trying to determine where a Break in a Network cable occurs can be a pain in the A**.

cat5 is fine @ 100ft. I would try not to go farther than that. I buy my cables at canadacomputers.com prices are decent.
