You have got to be joking me.. I"d drop it off at the providers store and let them deal with it. Losing phones is like losing your whole life story ( how many percent of the # in your address book you remember?) More then likely the phone would be suspended for lost/stolen reasons.. so you won't be able to use it. If it's a GSM style phone (SIM card) you can remove SIM card and put in a valid one to use the phone.
