Depends on the room your putting it in. I'd say LCD's are more reliable. Plasma's sometimes requires a room to have a certain temp and supposedly the gas can leak out. But if the room is temp is good and steady (not sure what it should be) and you actually need a 62 inch TV...why not.

I always thought plasmas were a lot more than LCD's. I know our 50" Viera cost a hell of a lot more than $1699 so i'd go for the plasma.

Sony is the best company when it comes to making a tv. I have a 60 inch sony sxrd 1080p lcd tv and its just amazing. I also have a 26 inch bravia which is great for the money too. Plasma's are good for watching all angles and is perfect for hanging on a wall. I suggest you buy a sony which i think only now make lcd tv's. You can get a plasma better than a lcd and or the opposite depending on what you get. Just try getting a 1080p tv, perferably sony and you wont be disappointed.

This was back in the day when they first came out. This is not the case with current plasmas.

 LCD all the way. Look at it this way:
- LCD Lifespan = 10 years
- Plasma Lifespan = 5 years

LCD's are much more reliable than plasmas. Also you don't have to worry about where you're gonna put the tv since the lcd is not glass, you won't see the sun's reflection like you would on a plasma.

Check this site out.

Plasma tv has a bulb that lasts 60 000 - 80 000 hours (total life, after that its done).

Lcd tv has a bulb that can last 3000-5000 hours (total life of the bulb only, Lcd projection bulb for a sony 55" can be bought for 250, and you can change it yourself) Once you replace the bulb, the tv works like brand new.

I have no information bout pixel life or anything, mainly because the lcd I own is a projected tv (55" widescreen).

They are pretty much the same.
I'd go for the bigger one.
