video card messed up....

whenever i install my video card (geforce fx5500 256mb ddr) n hook up my monitor to the video card, my monitor stays on standby mode, the computer turns on, all the lights, fans, working, but nothing shows up on my monitor. i have to use my onboard card on the motherbord (asus A7V8X-MX) to get the monitor to work. i cant find a way around this. anyone know what t o do:dunno:
btw, the onboard is a VGA, and the geforce is AGP

Uninstall the video card drivers, remove the card, use a can of air on the AGP slot, reinstall the card (what OS are you running btw?)
Boot up, install all your drivers, restart.

if that doesnt work disable the onboard video card from the setup menu and choose the AGP card as the primary video card.

^ what he said.

Disable onboard in the bios.
When memory counts hit delete, enter there.

there is no option to disable the onboard from the bios, also, the AGP card doesnt even show in my decvice manager, so i can't enable it.

tell us what kind of mother board you have, and we'll try and tell you under what menu in bios the onboard vga disable option is

256mb video card is a really high end video card so you monitor has to be high end too, if your video card lowest resolution is out of the range of your monitors resolution then notting will show up....so monitors will say 'out of range' but if its an old monitor then it probly wouldnt say that at all, it will jsut show a blank screen, what kind of monitor are you running?

husseinj3 08-02-2006 11:24 AM

motherboard is an Asus A7V8X-MX
i know its not the monitor, cuz it was workin on my other computer with this monitor.
its a year old now, acer 17" AC711

try upgrading to the newest nvidia drivers...

also.... make sure that u've enabled the 2nd monitor in the display properties in windows.

husseinj3 08-02-2006 03:53 PM

when i try to install the nvidia drivers, it says, the video card installed is not geforce or wutever, then closes down
how would i enable the 2nd monitor in display properties?
