What Do I Buy?

My desktop died-very dead-we hummed taps and took it to recycling after F disking it to remove personal info. I'm going to get an new desktop (yea!!!!) but I just don't know what to get. These are my choices:

Dell
eMachines
HP

Out of those three brands which do you think is the best. I know I need a good graphics card and some mega RAM but I just don't know which machine to go with.

Well what will it be used for, and also whats your price range?

rogerdodger Aug 20, 2009 10:22 AM

It will be used for just surfing and also for watching videos and movies. I would rather have a super graphics card just in case I do want to get into gaming or if my grandson comes over. I love to watch old movies and I found a site online that streams them legally for free.

I have an HP and I like it though it's only about 18 months old so it hasn't had a lot of time to start messing up. LOL I've heard good things about emachines though so you might want to look into that a bit more.

Ive got a DELL XPS laptop and Love it. Mine is more than what you need, but I have had no problems with my machine. Well i did have one little bug with the keyboard but I got the extended in home warentee. So I had a guy come to my house the next day on my lunch hour at school. My friend got a desktop from dell and has had no problems either. DELL's website is pretty good too if you know alittle bit about computers. You can build a computer for exactly what u want. I know I probably sound like a DELL sales person, i just am more than happy with my purchase!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the advice. I probably will go to tiger direct or new egg or one of the other sites. I love the 'net so I'm just surfing along on my laptop for now. I'm putting off buying until I talk to a bunch of people-like you guys!

Building your own computer is a good idea as you can save a lot of money and get a lot of personal satisfaction knowing it's your own creation. However dont try it if you've never done it before.

I bought an emachine the last time I got a new one. It works fine for me. They have different ones with different amounts of memory on them. The more memory you want the more it costs. I got mine at walmart and it came with a one year warranty. I paid $450.
