Wireless Signal Indicator

Long story short.. my area is currently running a wireless internet service.. just have it hooked up at the girlfriend's parents place not far from me. Using a Dlink DGL 4300 wireless router.. it will tell signal strength percentage relative to the other computer it sees.. but not the actual internet signal strength. Does anyone know of 3rd party software or anything that will tell as far as inbound signal strength

It depends on the type of Wireless Internet you are talking about.

If you are talking about a Wireless Internet Connection like Bell's Sympatico Unplugged then the signal strength will be the signal between the wireless adapter and the Tower.

But if you are talking about wireless (Someone left a Wireless Router open) Internet, then the signal strength will be between the wireless adapter and the router.

This will show your average Download/Upload speeds in a nice graphical form.

The Strength indicator on the Wireless Connection is the strength between the adapter and the tower.

Other than that, there is no way to find out signal strength without buying expensive Signal Meters
