not bad, looks like chryslers' making up for producing a 4-door (auto?) charger. maybe this one'll be 6spd.

I saw a silver Magnum SRT8 two weeks ago in the Port Credit area. Those aren't supposed to be out yet either. Both are awesome looking cars.

ivperformance 07-15-2005 08:54 AM

should of had this one in the first place, the now charger is a disgrace to the name.

FastWrx 07-15-2005 09:41 AM

Looks like a done up intreped...boooooooo

G.A.T EXPORTER 07-15-2005 10:06 AM

The frontend looks very fitting for what era were in, but the back end is just not holding up for me.

They've made some police cars in michigan that use both the magnum and charger platform. I'm not a fan of either car but the police versions looked sweet.

I'm going to bet money that this new 4-door Charger would out-perform the original Charger in almost every category... braking, for sure, handling, no doubt, and acceleration, maybe. So what if it's a four door, that means all the family men can get away with buying one because they are a "4-door family car", so the wifes won't care. I know if I was like 40 years old, I'd be happy as hell because I could buy a 425hp V8 sedan that I could carry the kids around in. That, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper on insurance then a 2-door of the same performance would be.

I love it...

:appl: to chrysler for adding yet another impressive car to the SRT line!

i build these cars, while doing a buisness major at the moment. trust me when i say that a coupe would be too risky to build, too difficult to integrate into current production, and wouldnt sell nearly as well as the sedan does. if you understood how the market worked, you would know why they decided to design it the way they did.
the people who complain like you over the sedan fall either two ways
1) you were never an original mopar enthusiast, just jumped onto the names of classics, and wouldnt buy it even if its was a coupe.
2) have memories and experiance of mopar of old, go check out the new charger anyways, see and drive it, and the "omg its a 4 door" compeltely leaves your mind.

bottom line is, the sedan doesnt take anything away from this car, and this industry is too fierce to reintroduce a coupe that wouldnt sell as well as a sedan counterpart

for all the die-hard, the challenger is on its way. mustang is in for a beating once it debuts. but again, risky, but more feasible once the charger is established in the market.

no, the srt8 will not have a 6speed manual, there are no plans to bring one, and there are too many issues at the moment to try and properly integrate one.

exactly right

The figures are not looking too good for chrylser nowadays, the reason they were doing so good back in the day is because they took the risks, they got a little boost with the 300c, but its still not enough, the hemi is not causing as much a stur as i excpected. What happened to the mad 80s and early 90s when you we had a turbo minivan, a stealth, a shadow with a minivan 3L engine, you were doing so good what happened?

But i guess if you want you can keep it safe, keep building the family caravan and survive on that for now, honda will still take over pretty soon.

Also if you really think about it, the target of this vehicle will be a mid life crisist male, problem here is that a mid life crisist male would want a sporty LOOKING car, thats why the RX8 and Mustang figures will beat the charger many times fold :P maybe i'll eat my words :knock_tee

dj_jake 07-15-2005 02:16 PM

actually, its toyota thats taking over
its expected that in under 2 years, they will have %15 of the market covered, making them the industry leaders, and finnally displacing GM

ivperformance 07-15-2005 02:35 PM

I was reffering to the minivan market in that comment, specifically the Odyssey which jumped to number 2 in 2003-4, Also GM doesnt know what the they are doing, that reminds me in need to post something.

Chrysler's mechanical problems just dont stop, the design idea is there, but they are too ing scared to move. JUST ING DO SOMETHING, they ed up on the neon, ed up on the minivan tranny, ed up on keeping a 10 year old engine practically intact(3.0L),i mean there is a ing site dedicated to chrysler's : http://www.mychryslersucks.com/ . even with that said chrysler is the only one that seems to hang in there for now(out of the 3).

You guys must have forgot what a Musclecar was and still IS. The original Charger was a "personal muscle/luxury car" and thats exactly what it still is. Mustangs/Camaro/Cuda/Javelin...all pony cars. Musclecars are in laymans terms..BMW M5, Lexus GS 400, Infinity M55, Charger SRT8 these days. Back then musclecars were just normal cars with big motors and flashy . The STi, SRT4 and EVO have been touted MANY times that they are the only cars around that follow the same recipes as they used in the 60's.

SO, the Charger is taking on that market and the Challenger will take on the Pony cars. Jake, I dont think its that big of a risk, look at the piece of Stratus and sebring coupes they sell now. Its just up-branding and actually pointing the unit to a secure market.
As far as quality goes Dieter himself said that he knows Chrysler hasnt been on the "quality ball" as of late but starting with the LX series they are matching Toyota in quality standards (not buying from the cheapest suppliers..like all Domestic manufactures do) So far the only recall on our 300s was that the coolant wasnt mixed 50/50. Big ing deal. Not like a Chevy or Ford "recalling 20 million models because they might catch fire and the seat belts will lock" BULLSHIT. DCX is going to be #1 North American in no time.

So is that the corperate speach they tell you to say about the 4 door?

I have a friend who works at the plant and he says the same thing every time some one gripes about it being a 4 door lol.
Yes its an impresive car performance and driving, and it dont look bad for a 4 door, but I think dodge should have called it a coronet and later bring out a limmited 2 door version and call it a charger.

The SRT 300, magnum and chargers are very impresive on there power.
I was at the spring fling show this year and they had an SRT8 300 there and when they moved it back to the lot the guy smoked the tires all the way across the parking lot. Way cool in my books.
