Dokota R/T tunning info

anyone know a realy good site for dakota R/T's, ei engind mods mostely, rear end gear ratios, shift kits for trannys.....best mod for the bux pretty much, withc brand chip to use stuff like that...id really a preciate all the help i can get...i wanna make this ****er fly on a budget!

Sites going through some problems right now mite not be able to log in.

First thing, what year is the truck? The computers were different in some years.
99 and 98 you can get the mopar pcm but 200 and up you are stuck with either an over priced programmer or sending in your stock pcm to have it flashed.

Things to start with on these trucks tht will cost you little or no money but work well
1 cold air intake. Dont bother with one of those expensive kits unless you want to go for the looks. Even just removing the elbow shaped silencer from the factory filter box that turns into the fender will gain you some decent power.
I went 3 tenths quicker in the 1/4 mile when I did this. Also remove the piece of rubber that seals the area between the rad and the rad support infront of the air box. It will flow more air directly to the intake.

Next, remove the AIT sensor from the intake manifold and replace with a plug. If I remember right its a 1/2 inch NPT fitting. Get one at home depot.
Drill a hole in the air intake somewhere and thread the AIT sensor into it.
This will read a colder air temp and bump up some timing and fuel pressure. 2 tenths in the 1/4.
The AIT sensor is on the pass side of the intake manifold toward the front with 2 wires attached.

next Replace the 195 T stat with a 180. The colder temp the computer reads will do the same as above. Dont go lower than 180 though.

If you have access to a scan tool, plug it in and check the fuel sync. It alows a 14 degree sweep between -7 and +7 degrees. I have mine set at +7 and seems to work well. You adjust it buy moving the distributor as if you were setting the ignition timing on an older non computer set up. This will not change your ignition timing as that is set buy the computer.

If you have an 01 or later truck, remove the heavy clutch fan. The electric fan on them will not come on till a higher temp that you want but for me when I need it at the track, I unplug the AC pump and then turn on the AC. This turns the electric on and will keep the truck at 180.
If you have 00 or older, buy an electric fan and remove the clutch fan.

If you really want to get creative, you can modify your crank sensor to read the flywheel sooner and give the truck about 4 to 6 degrees more timing.
Just ask and I will tell you how to do that. All you need is a dremil tool.
I dropped a full second off my ET by doing these things so they do work and dont cost much.

Also give it a tune up if one hasnt been done recently. If it still has the champion plugs in it get rid of them. I just put in some NGK v powers and the truck seems to like them. Replace the cap rotor and wires too.
