2.3 to 5.0 swap.

So, for the next year or thereabouts, I'm gonna run just a simple 5.0L in my LX coupe. No huge hp numbers, no blower or turbo, maybe an intake and exhaust job, but that's it

Who's making the best swap kit? What kinda money am I looking at to buy the kit and where should I start looking.......still have to source a motor and trans too. I'd really like to know if the 2.3L trans will work for a year or so.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

The best way to convert a 2.3L to a 5.0 is to go to your local savage yard and/or Mustang parts source and pick up parts that way. Definetly cheaper.

From what I know your Auto tranny won't work.

I'll get the motor and trans from the wrecker, but I dunno about the rest, I know there's kits to swap the 2.3 out for the 5.0.....probably need a new harness, definatly motor mounts and trans mounts but what else?

It's always the small stuff that kills you in the end....so what else will I need.

In an 87-93 Stang the swap is not very hard, especially if you have the mechanical ability to perform the swap yourself. I do not know of anyone that offers a complete swap "kit" but you can source all the parts quite easily and cheap too. First decide if you want to go carb or efi. A carb 5.0 swap is easier due to the fact that you wont have to change the fuel lines and harness, the two hardest things to do.
For an EFI swap, the easiest method is to replace the entire harness from FRONT all the way to the back from a 5.0 car. You will also need good condition fuel lines, both feed and return. Don't forget to install a better fuel pump, I suggest a 255lph intank unit. Aside from this, the rest is straightforward.
You will need the motor, trans, driveshaft, motor/trans mounts, radiator, full exhaust and all the accessory brackets for the 302. The swap can be done for about $1000 if you find the right parts, and if you can score a parts car you're ahead of the game. Good luck.
