351w ???????

I can get my hands on a 1993 351W(rollor) Would be worth my time picking it up and building it? I plan on going the turbo route but a couple of people have told me that this block can't handle much more than the 302?And is not worth the time and money? Any advice would be great! Thanks Dave

How much boost are you running?. A 351W is very similiar to a 302.

I think a strock 351w block will easily handle 100hp more then a 302.
Do a turbo 408!

That is the plan! As for boost levels i want somthing that will easly get me into the mid 10's! S0 if its possable to run 10 pounds of boost and make say 600 hp and say the 351W can hold say 700ish then i should be able to also put 100 shot for back up as well? This is what i'm thinking but i don't know? So my numbers may be way off and not even close again i dont know that is why im doing some research and asking for advice as well!I have been told that a 351W can hold 700ish hp but is this true???????????And what kind of power will a 351 need to make it a mid 10 sec car? I have full suspention already just need a cage and the motor+turbo set up.The car is an 86gt and if you need to know im 34 and an ironworker per trade so im not some 18 year old dreamer working at mc D's so if anyone can give me some tips i would appeciate them! Dave

The motor I have for my car is a 302, the car it came out of
was 1200 lbs more than my coupe and it went 11.59 at 129.
Mine should go mid 10s at low 130s. The motor puts
out 547hp and 499tq with 12lbs of boost so with the proper
gearing and set up you should be in there or quicker.

Yes, its definitely worth it. These are leaps and bounds stronger than the 302s, as the 302 blocks are living on borrowed time over 500 flywheel HP. I have personally seen stock (with ARP rod bolts and forged pistons) 351 blocks make over 700HP with boost and one particular motor lasted for over a year at that power level til he detonated a piston and it broke. Lots of guys are making 600-800HP with 351 without issue, and I hope to join those ranks in due time. I've got a nice '85 351 block that I'll be putting together soon.
As for strength, the roller blocks are not as strong but they will be plenty for most street cars. The earliest 69-70 blocks are the strongest. You have to remember, that with a 351 you will be making tons more torque than a 302 and especially so with a turbo! Good luck, a 351 is a good choice.
