5.0 Block

k, ive read this on a few Stang sites ect. i keep hearing 5.0 Blocks cant take much more then 500hp without cracking it. i didnt believe it at first and i didnt want to, but i kept seeing it. i really wanted a 5.0 and after awhile i was going to do a DIY TT, ect. i think i would make more than 500 with my plans. is what i read correct.

Thanks for anyhelp

i want to know this to, when they say block do they mean internals or the accualy block. if so do u have to buy a aftermarket 302 if you wanna make more then 500.

imported_RICO 03-02-2006 08:10 PM

yes it is true. opens like a melon some say. and that a stock bottom end.

but you can get girdles that help keep them in one piece.

look at these.

Dang that sucks, Girdle? and do you have an aftermarket Block in your stang, RICO

imported_RICO 03-03-2006 09:43 AM

nope mines a stock 94 gt block cause i melted something in the stock 90 block that came with the car. gonna be stroking sooner or later.

sounds like a good idea, which one would i get if i got the 5.0. they aint to expensive either. would the peices on on the existing engine, or put internals in what i would buy, cause that would be alot of work and i dont have much tools. and im 15 but i would try.

tmanwaite 03-06-2006 09:01 AM

ive neva heard of this .. i say get one from the junkyard and make that fast as hell...eh

imported_RICO 03-06-2006 10:05 AM

untill it came apart^^^^^^^^^

and drifting you wanna make the question a little clearer on what you are asking.

2TONE_93GT 03-06-2006 02:53 PM

stock block with forged internals i know for fact can make 660 RWHP :nana:

But its not wise, even with internals.. i think its wise to stop around the 430 RWHP area on a stock block stang.

My 306 is the same as a DSS essentially, and its been hammered on a few times.. If youre going to spend big cash on the insides, might as well get a block too... then make 1000+ RWHP :)

imported_RICO 03-06-2006 04:39 PM

do it right the first time. thats why i haven't touched the bottom end on mine yet.

shaggy 03-07-2006 09:48 PM

high milage and abuse killed mine. I only estimated it had 250rwhp
routine maintence and still itself.

next motor will have a better damper and all new bearings. then see if this holds true about bottom ends :)

rydinturbo 03-07-2006 10:55 PM

yea i herd shaggy is a little rev happy :smashfrea :knock_tee

all the girdle will do is hold your parts when the block splits. If you don't beat on the car 24/7 it will last you.I have friends with 500rwhp and so far so good.you will be good at 475 rwhp..I say just go the 500..a fresh stock block with internals is a $1000.00 so don't worry.500rwhp is good for 10's so why would you want more than that on the street.worry about the stock 8.8 and stock trany..Dasilvas son is runing 600 with a 306 and he gives it all its got.his car has 2.02 edelbrock heads cobra uper/lower and 12lb of boost with a good tune.
