Ford F-150 EcoBoost: The V6 Sales Star

Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is impressive. It's torquey, economical, smartly engineered and -- as the company proved by taking it to the Baja 1000 -- durable as all get-out. But nowhere is this engine more impressive than in the F-150 EcoBoost. And sales reports are beginning to show it. The F-150 EcoBoost is essentially a run-of-the-mill F-150, albeit one with a 365-horsepower direct-injected turbocharged V6 that delivers 420 lb-ft of torque. At $28,185, it's relatively expensive, but it's also a heck of a package: For that price, you get the nation's best-selling vehicle, a pickup that offers a nice interior, attractive if slightly dated sheet metal and a do-anything chassis. The EcoBoost engine produces more power and torque than Ford's cheapest V8 (the 5.0-liter Coyote unit also found in the excellent Mustang GT), but, at 22 mpg, it also offers better fuel economy.
