why would you want to use the 2.3 tranny ? Why not just purchase a used one from a scrap car, theyre everywhere.. from $200-800 depending on shape...

Yes, it will bolt right up to your stock 5.0 bellhousing. The main difference is in the input shaft, the pilot section of the shaft is thinner so you will have some play which will lead to early (earlier) failure. The internals are weaker than a 5.0 T5 and won't hold up to much abuse. However, I beat the crap out of one for over a year till it exploded on me. Mind you, my car was only a 14 second car at the time (not much faster now anyways).

re: stangseller

the reason i ask is cause i have a 4 cylinder mustang and i bought a 5.0 with no tranny ..no mass air ...no dizzy ...no interior so i was going to use w/e i could from it any other ideas ...so stang seller the tranny will hold up untill i buy a t5 5.0

The Tranny will hold up, just don't pound the piss out of it. My cousin put a 4 cylinder T-5 in his 86, its doing just fine.

The 4banger tranny will work.
But get a 4 banger pilot bearing and press out the bearing and press it into the 5L pilot to take care of the slop.
