MSRP - $35,000 USD / $42,000 CDN

This furthers my opinion that Saleen's in Canada are WAY overpriced @ $52,000.

True..but most of the stuff up here is overpriced, look at NSXs around 1991..or any MK4 supra..any FD rx-7..

I think that's a bit different though. It's one thing to overprice a car from a dealer, it's another for an aftermarket manufacturing company to overprice a car.

$40,000 for Supra's and RX-7's then, now it's $35,000 for a 227 (see 180) horsepower WRX. Look at Camaro's and Firebirds, it wasn't that people wouldn't buy them, it was just that GM priced themselves out of the market. 40 year old men don't want those they want the Vette, so whose down with the F-Body's? 20 and 30 year olds. Who the can afford a $38,000 WS6 when your 25? To put it simply, if the manufacturer overprices it, the vehicle doesn't sell and eventually dies off.

With Saleen though, you got dipshits buying them because of the name. $2500 for chrome wheels, $5000 for brakes. It doesn't take a genius to notice that a Cobra or even that Cobra R was more bang for the buck back during the last body style. But now, with the new Stang dropping you can see the price different is HUGE. $32,000 will get you a GT, $42,000 will get you a GT500, $52,000 will get you a Base Saleen with 1/2 the power of a GT500 and a bit more than a GT. Does the Saleen handle any better? Perhaps, but it's nothing a set of low pro's and a hotchkis suspension kit wouldn't fix on the GT.

My problem with Saleen is they just can't justify the prices and now that the "Shelby" name is back, which is FAR bigger than the Saleen name will ever be. I think it's impossible to justify spending $52,000 on a in' Mustang. I find it tough already justifying $42,000 on a Stang, but then I realize it's not the cost, is more of an investment. Shelby's will only increase in value, whereas Saleen's will eventually depreciate. Someone approaches you 10 years down the road and offers you a Shelby or a Saleen for $30,000 with identical mileage, but the same difference in reputation and power. You know your taking the Shelby.

I'd kill myself for even one of those clone 67 Fastback Eleanor's made by Unique for $90,000.

Investment v. Hype. I could see buying a Shelby, can't see buying a Saleen.

"but it seems a little reserved.."

i don't think you'd say that if you saw one of those on the street.

I personally have a 05 Stang in my garage which my dad purchased and even without any mods its still goes and hauls ass doing it. It could use a bit more traction even with the TCS on but other 300 pony's and 320pounds of torque isnt that bad for $40,000. i would have liked it if they had put the rims that were on the 69 Shelby (Eleanor) Just to give it more of a classic look. But it still does 13 and a bit on the 1/4 mile and to me thats not bad for a stock Stang. As for the Saleen and Shelby Versions. I dont think they will sell as much as say the Gt or Base model V6 Due to the fact that The Shelby 500 has more balls but a way bigger price tag. You could get a GT up to the same range with spenging less cash, sure you wouldnt have the emblems or styling, But you would have the confidence in pulling up next to a 05' 500 knowing youd blow that off center emblem off that dammn grill. As for the Saleen, Its gunna be a waste of money and time. But then again people will buy it for the name not the powertrain.

I call B.S. if he reduced his 60ft time to 1.6 he'd be running high 11's. There's no in way.

monopoly 04-08-2005 12:35 PM

^what are you talking about?? i've seen low 13's high 12's cars running 1.6 60 fts.

I wouldn't say that. There are many pure stockers at the tracks now that are submitting low 13s in stock condition. I call BS on HC statement unless he was on a real sticky tire with gear.

Actually Guy my fathers mustang is sitting in my driveay right now i never stated It was mine under my name i use it until ym vehicle is done. and all the info abou the time on the 1/4 is straight out of hotRod Mag. The Mustang I Mustang i have has not hit the track yet. And Yes Im aware the tracks arent open yet! :smilie_fi And for those who think I dont have one sitting in my garage ill show you some pics of it. Or you can just drive up here yourselves and see if you want.

Adn the pic in my sig is the mustang that did 13.6 STOCk and on stock rubber. As for the burnout the car can spin the wheels but only for a couple seconds due to the TCS bullshit then the ECU locks it out. :D Have a nice day.
