Power stearing noise?

Hi
my new mustang (old 89) is making a weird noise when i stear. Can i take the pump rightoff? Can i replace the whole rack?

Please help, its annoying!

Here is a simple question, does the noise sound like a whinning noise???? If so have you check your power steering fluid??? Because ford Power steering pumps will whine if they are low on fluid. But to anwser your question, you can take the power steering pump off and you can replace the whole rack.

for one i would like to welcome you to the world of ford, they all whine, and like stang said check your fluid level or check your belt.

Youve over looked the most important question, is there a blower under the hood :smashfrea

Power stearing is prolly low on fluids, top it up and go from there. It only gets bad when it start screaching and everyone in the parking lot notices it.

Hahaha I was going to say the exact same thing. But unless you're having stiffness problems with the steering, then chances are its not low on fluid. Every Stang up till 98 makes power steering noise. It's something we've come to terms with.

actually, the power steering whine is quite common on Ford vehicles.

My old man has had lots of Ford cars and trucks mostly late 80's and early to mid 90's and each and every one had it....it's nothing to worry about....but check your fluid level just in-case.

yea man, power steering noises are common in the early 90s late 80s fords... just make sure all your fluids are topped up...

better yet, just replace the powersteering fluid, I find that alot of people neglect it.
