Stock 302 redline?

Hi I was wondering if a stock 302 with heads will rev to 8500+rpm?

Someone on another forum said theirs did no problem.

Thanks
Bo

That would depend on the head and cam combination. How far in the RPM range would cam still be making power. A stock Cam and Head 5.0 HO the valves will float at approx 5200-5300 rpm.

No it will not, unless you have some pretty serious mods. Even then it will be pretty hard to make power up to there. I can rev a stock 302 up to 8500 RPM, maybe, once.

Well, tag's fully built 306 1001 HP street car revved to 8500. And even then he usually shifted before that.
There is no way a stock is revving that high. :twak:

Never..unless the tach is fixed, set to 6cylinder maybe. :smashfrea

That motor was far from stock LOL
Just like how people are saying my 351 is stock and E7 heads dont fit LOL

Well, you made it sound stock with heads.. that’s how i read it too. Its possible to rev that high..and yes, you could do it a few times stock.. except it’ll surely break :)

I am curious on that setup you had, specs :)

well it did have a lifter fail and after it was apart. We did check the lobs on the cam and you could see sighs on the lobs that i had been flooting it as well.

Thats like my AOD trany, Everyone that had been in the car said it was the hardest shifting tranny they every felt. The main resion i switched to stick was the fact that my back could not take the shifts when i drive it all day and people use to say that was stock too.

I guess my rear end is stock as well or welded like some people say too LOL.

Right. The valves will usually float at or around 6000rpm. Your welded rear end must be the reason the motor revved up to 8500 RPM on a regular basis. :smashfrea

Yup i guess welded rear emd made all that stuff work.
Your right most of the time and stock valves will float around 6000 6800 with stock springs and what not. Mine were not stock

Uhhhhh, theres a huge difference between 6000 and 6800RPM. Most people would usually say the stock springs will start to float around 5800-5900RPM, not 5800-6400RPM. That's just so general. It's like saying to a friend that you'll pick him up between 1pm and 9pm.

I think you watched that vid (The last race ) one time to many and think that all fords will blow up after 6500 rpm LOL.

I would push that motor up to 8 and it did so for a year till it went Boom. And it was from a valve train failer that i knew would happen sooner or later.
I have told people over and over that person that built that motor makes race motors for thundercar cascar drag boat and hyd boat racing, All of them are hi reving motors sports. Thundercars in stock class rev to 7000 with stock rods and need to last a season then you have higher class ass well. My 351 will fall flat on its face at 6000 its built to make power not hit dam V tec LOL
