Trying to leave hard at the strip!
 

I have a question for you guys maybe you can help. I have a 1984 Mercury Capri RS. The car was mostly complete when i bought it. Aluminum Head 306 ci, Bob Hanlin built WC T-5, 9-inch rear with 410's. The car is a blast to drive on the street, but will not hook. It was set-up as a road race car. Super stiff BBK springs/shocks/struts at all four corners. I added upper/lower control arms and they helped a little. I was wondering if anybody had any history getting one of the old fox's to hook. I was thinking of going with an adjustable shock/strut in the front and maybe some E.T. Street's. One of my best friends has a '99 Stang with nothing but E.T. Street's on the car and it will hook so hard that it will bog the motor if he leaves at anything less that 4,500. And thats on the street! It's not a race car and I drive her all the time so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

take out air in the rear tires, get some weight over the rear axle

The big question is, how important is handling to you and are you willing to sacrifice some of that to get the car to hook hard?

Handling is of some importance to me because I drive the car 4-5 times a week. I am willing to give up some cornering to hook though. Thats why I was thinking of an adjustable set-up. Thanks for you suggestions.

My opinion: You need weight transfer and a tire. I would get rid of the stiff BBK suspension and go with something you can adjust for drag and street driving.

QA1 makes great products but it depends on how much you want to spend. Stay away from Strange, alot of people are complaining of the noise the shock/struts start to make over time. Do a searsh and you'll see.

As for a tire, you and I both need some E.T. Street's:headbang:

Nice cheap suspension combo up front is 4cyl mustang springs with lakewood 90/10 drag shocks. Also when at the track disconnect the front sway bar.

Doing this will allow the front end to come up quick and with the 90/10 drag shocks it will lower slowly.
