niceroc 04-03-2006 06:17 PM

i might be interested in buying it... im kinda short on cash now tho...

97' Z28 show project 04-03-2006 06:22 PM

why?

NoRiceInside 04-03-2006 07:24 PM

this transmission sucks. it cant handle what the LT1 puts out. my last car blew the input bearing now this one had a weak pressure plate so i replaced the clutch now it sounds like my output shaft bearing is bad and it feels like my hydraulics are going out on my clutch.

im sick of it.

SOMBirdV6 04-03-2006 07:37 PM

The stock auto tranny isnt that much better. I dont get by what u mean on it cant handle what the LT1 puts out? Its the same tranny thats in the LS1 isnt it? It can handle those engines with mods I dont see it having a problem with an LT1.

All in all here i most say....

Automatoc > Manual (waits for people to disagree and start the war again haha)

In a way, yes, cause of having to replace clutches and all that fun stuff... but manual transmissions are much more fun to drive, IMO

NoRiceInside 04-03-2006 07:53 PM

ha. you think clutches are a ***** to replace...wait til your automatic starts to slip and take a look at the bill.

but we cant have an arguement on manual vs. auto cuz for daily driver or for drag an auto is better. for enjoying a car its manual. simple.

but what i meant was that the drivetrain in the late model f bodies isnt up to the challenge of supporting the torque these late model engines produce. ive spoken with many people about it, someone from a shop that sees plenty of these cars and another guy from a transmission shop that rebuilds these transmissions all the time.

The stock T56 can easily handle what the LT1 puts out.

Either the previous owner of your car thrashed the hell out of it, or you did, or you just suck at the driver mod. Take your pick. Those trannies are not weak by any stretch.

NoRiceInside 04-03-2006 07:56 PM

well based on the test drive with the last guy i guess maybe he drove it like **** and thats why my rear end and clutch both went out after i bought it.

**** i spend some good money on a low mileage car so i dont have to many problems...look where it got me. still having problems and now in debt.

69z-28 04-03-2006 08:42 PM

dude you must just have bad luck with them, because i dont know anyone who would complain about a t-56. change the oil once in a while and put in a good clutch, and they are pretty much top of the line, none better. good luck with whatever you do but you will feel like dick when you begin telling people you swapped in an auto cause the t-56 was giving you too many problems.

NoRiceInside 04-03-2006 09:48 PM

i was only partially serious about swapping. i love a 6 speed. just having a 6th gear is enough to wow people :D

its got a brand new valeo clutch kit, which is what the OEM clutch is. i put mobil 1 synthetic ATF in it when i got the car, then when i dropped it last month i put regular dexron III in it. i dont know if the different fluid could cause problems...i dont see how, but if anyone knows, please speak up.

FORCE_FED_Z 04-03-2006 09:52 PM

The stock T-56 should be good till around 500 horse driving pretty agressively. If you are having problems with your tran, I think you might be having a string of bad luck. Both trannies in my cars put up with the power I was making without issues, including this one that had a stock clutch in it.

The T-56 is a stout transmission- esp when you rebuild it with cyro parts...
