130mph

reached speeds of 130mph on the trans canada highway from Mission exit to Langley exit via West to Vancouver.

I did this in my all-stock V6 3.4ltr engine. The only mod is it has no speed limiter.

It was a very clear highway 12am, with very little traffic so I had lots of straight open space. If anyone knows this highway, they know it as being straight, and two lanes to gain lots of speed.

I notice at high speeds for a very long time (+200kmh) my engine seems to almost kick back a bit on the RPM. I also notice the car feels like it's lifting a bit and get speed wobbles like it's pulling left and right as it cruises.

not sure if this is so common amongst the Camaro design. Aerodynamics are decent for this car.

On another note:

Today I put in two custom face plates to properly mount the 7" screens I have on my seats.

The ones it came with were not working out.

So I cut some particle board to fit the screens. Particle board width is only 1/8" very very thin.. Then used two part epoxy resin to strengthen the custom face plates. Then painted them for extra strength. Then glued thin foam to the back. I then painted the face plate black and put a clear coat on it to give it a natural plastic like finish.

The Bezel/faceplate hides the seam line I cut in the upolstery very nicely. The screen is already recessed into the seat, and is tied into the actual springs of the seat LOL for its mounting.. So the bezel/faceplate is only more an esthetics then a support system.

Soon... I WILL have great pics.. but I don't want spoilers until I am completely satsified with all my work :)

Peace

dunno if getting to 130 was a smart thing, but hey the screens sound cool.

"BS flag" -- I'll have to get a cam and record the speed.

At 130mph ... engine doesn't want to give up anything more tho LOL.. It's completely taxed.

and I reached that speed on a slight decline in road surface for a good 1/4 mile stretch.

I can see the BS flag put in tho.. I mean c'mon is right... That's pretty awesome a 3.4ltr can reach top speeds like that with no modification.

I did have a long run to gain that kind of speed... Like 10 miles of straight clear roads, and a lot of downhill to pick up more speed.

peace

yea you are correct.

Camarocam 03-23-2005 05:44 PM

I don't know I have done 125 in my car and that was still when I had my turbo 350 trans and it would have gone faster now that I have my 700R4 I think my car wil do a 140 easy :)

Drake 03-23-2005 07:52 PM

Meh, I hit 130 the other day following some other F-Bodies in a cruise. :D

I could never get my 3.8 to go over 120 though.

I'm going to have to prove you all wrong that things are not written in stone.

I will make a cam of my top-end speed on the Trans Canad Highway shortly. I'm sure you're all eager to see it.

To reply to question about stock gauges...

My gauges are stock, I judge my speed using math from distance a to b landmark, and time travelled from point to point. It's extremely accurate +/- 1 mile per hour.

My guage is Canadian, 180km/h it shows, however the needle goes past that, burries itself lol.

hint: I make sure I have little fuel or I wont reach that speed, too much weight in the car.

I also take out all my stereo crap to lighten the car up.

I'll attempt to hit 130mph on a straight stretch, no slopes.

peace
