Camaro Perfomance Page

Was reading the camaro performance numbers vs. the mustangs for each year. I noticed something and wasnt sure why it was the way it was but for the 2000 year the highest hp rated mustang was the Cobra R with 385hp but it shows the highest mustang as having only 260. Was there a reason the writer left out the Cobra R as in not enough made or something. Just a wondering question.

Cobra R is a special model, designed specifically for racing, and can only be purchased by those with racing licenses. It is stripped to the bare essentials, no A/C or power options. It is not a regular production model.

Plus, there was a big uproar sometime in the later model Mustangs where it turns out Ford overrated the power specs on the Cobras.

Ya i had heard about this but wasnt sure. I thought the overrating was just on the 1999 models and they eventually had that fixed for later models and put out a fix for that model year also. Which is why i have heard that the 03 and 04 cobras where in turn underratted from the factory or so i have heard and read around different places.

side note..i understand why the 2000 Cobra R model was left out but i didnt think u need a racing liscence for one since it was street legal or so i thought it was street legal still.

Typically those are used for production vehicles readily available to the public.

The newer cobra's were underrated..a friend used to have one, with only a cold-air he put down 380 RWHP. Since they are only rated at 390 flywheel, I would say it was a little underrated..

I guess it depended on which ones you have then i guess. I have heard several stories going both ways so also heard one person say that it really depended on which peope built the engine as certain ones have run rather strong and these engines where hand built for the 03,04. Its all good this is why i am here to questoin and to learn.
