Cat rattle

So, my cat has been rattling for a while now. And it really pisses me off to hear the sound of the cam and love it just to hear the rattle of the cat. Im thinking about just dropping it and gutting the cat and seeing if it will throw a code that way, and if it does, put in a high flow, and while im there i'll probally throw on an electric cutout.

So, anyone here with a v6 ever gutted the cat or put on an electric cutout that can give me some advice? Appreciate it, im not an exhaust man.

There is, but I did the typical test (Get it on a lift and beat it with a rubber mallet) and it rattled from the inside.

it means you blew it up. you need a new one or just gut it. mine did the same thing

If I gut it, what are my chances of throwing a code and having to put in an o2 sim?

blue89vert 09-28-2006 10:36 PM

chances are idk lol i have no cat on my car right now and no AIR tubes and my car hasn't thrown a code. you should be ok

Yea well my luck blows. I put in my cam and had a 50/50 of throwing a code, and of course I did.

And while im at it, who makes a good affordable electric cutout?

Most of them are 200.00 or under.I'm going to use the QTP on mine.It comes with everything you need for 199.99.The only other one that I have personally seen is the one from DMH Performance.

Here is the one I'll be using http://shop.quicktimeperformance.com...ct_detail&p=24

If your getting a rattling at low rpm and when your idling, like you said when you push down the clutch or when you just cant hear the engine alot of times its the cat.

If you want to be sure, get it on a lift, with the car on, and hit the cat with a rubber mallet and listen for the distinctive rattle.

from my research there is no such thing as a good cheap electric cut out, one company makes a decent one that has a high motor failure rate (according to some guys on another board who swapped them for the old cable type)

Phate 09-29-2006 04:18 PM

Well Arch, what do you recommend? I honestly have no idea a good brand of one that is worth the price. I just know I want one lol.

As is with all electronics, heat = bad... and its around very high temperatures, so I assume craftsmanship has alot to do with it.
