Help Please! Camaro Problems!

Hey everyone let me give u the exact story so nothing is overlooked and i am BEYOND stumped by theway

I have a 1993 Camaro Z-28 Automatic, With a Shiftkit, 4:10 gears, SLP Loudmouth, K&n CAI.
I race drag racing at norwalk running nice consistant 13.6's and had a great day, on the way home i dont know if this effects anything i hit a pothole and it was like my car choked.
right away the Speedmeter went to Zero, it will not move.
The motor will not revv past 3000 RPM, It seems to hit a limiter of some sort it seems, i have accurate fuel pressure and spark to all cylinders. The car starts right up and idles choppy, when u give it gas it almost dies, you must baby it.
Now, the part i need help on
I take of the lower lap cooler today because NO computer whether it be the Tech 2, Snap on Brick, or the tool which makes the light flash are succesful in reading my computer..So i go to look and see this MESS of wires, it seems now obviously the car has a crazy alarm system.but its Gm goodwrench material. Right away i noticed the a little black box with a lgiht on it. Whenever u bump something near it, it flashes, whenever u give the car gas it flashes, It must be a sensor of some sort,
As you can see this doesnt look like its done right i know, i didnt do it but now im cornered in a place where i cant drive my car because of it.
After ruling out Fuel pump and optispark i now can clearly see its a computer/alarm/wiring problem. I think the car is armed or in a limp mode, its simply being restricted. The flashing light that ONLY flashes when you touch a part nearby or the gas must be telling a main computer orsomething that the car is being tampered with..

Anyone ever seen this type setup before? Does anyone know whats going on here..Is there a such Limp mode like im thinking, that would almost tell the car not to do certain things like give speedometer reading or a revv limiter?

This sucks although i have a m6 convertible t/a that i drive everyday, this car is my take to the strip beater and i love it. HELP please! Maybe im blowing this out of proportion but anything would help.

Sounds to me like the alarm is in Valet mode? Might try holding that little switch that in the bottom picture on the right for a couple seconds. I think that should disarm the valet mode. Or atleast it does on my Alpine alarm.

My guess is on the bump maybe your knee hit it or something?

Yea one of the things on the main box has a wire that says valet. it goes into that toggle like you said, but the only thing i noticed is that when i flick theres a lil securtily light near the headlight switch that blinks..It doesnt affect the running of the car, ill try and play with it tho. i dont know what the button next to it does, seems to do nothing.

Damn that **** looks like fun, I dont have a clue really Karps got a point about the valet mode though.

Karps TA 07-05-2007 09:37 PM

You have to hold it for a while usually. Not just hit it.

Quick google search gave me this

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

Thanks man thats interesting im going to try that now, only thing is my starts runs and drive i think valet mode wouldnt let it do ANYTHING..Ill let u knw in a few mins

Karps TA 07-05-2007 10:35 PM

No valet is mainly so the valet parker can't beat on your car.

Alright update, its like 10:45 here so our freindly neighbors frowned about me revving out the SLP camaro.. Anways i did what that valet instructions said, it double beeped to verify whatever, and idles better, and even seems to drive good. BUT, when u manualy shift it (like i do) it once again revvs only to 3000, and the speedometer doesnt work...Poop

Since this is your "take to the strip beater", pull all that crap out of there and be done with it. When I first got my car, that was the first thing I did was rip out the rat nest of half-*** wiring for the alarm.

Gimpala63n70 07-06-2007 07:09 AM

^^Oh trust me i wanna do that, but im nervous i could mess something up even worse! Did u have the GM goodwrench alarm also?

Karps TA 07-06-2007 09:22 AM

Well I'd guess it something trans related then. But that's about where my expertise ends.

FORCE_FED_Z 07-09-2007 04:12 PM

From your symtoms and that mess of wires, plus that box I would have to agree that the alarm system is somehow limiting what the engine can do.

Honestly my first step would be to locate an instruction manual on that alarm and un-install like was said- seems like you don't need it and its only going to cause problems in the future.
