Hybrid, Electric or Hydrogen perfomance

I will try to be breif: as you notice the gas prices are skyroketing, so peopel will buy more and more hybrids, electric and fuel cell cars. All of them have main propoltion system which is one or many electric motors.

Electric motors develop amazing torque but horrible HP. That's why they are good at towing but bad at acceleration.

Well, actually couple of people desighn electric sports cars, but they cost like Ferrari 360.

So my question for people. Does anybody knows how to increase the HP or Torque or RPM, or something, in Electrcal motors? Basically how to create high perfomance electric motor? :)

Come on guys, when it comes to the talk everybody participating, but when it is challenging question, nobody knows much. Anybody knows anything on electric motrs?

Get a squirrel and bag of peanuts or you can go all the way up and get the bunny. He keeps going 'n going!

Forget it, people here just like to talk, nothing more. Compared to the other forums.

im sure there is away. Maybe changing the gears it runs on, Feeding it more power?

Im not sure. Good question though.

A company in Germany makes brushless motors that are real performers.

I had my first ride in Toyota Prius last friday. I was amazed with the overall quality of the vehicle. The owner paid 2.5million YEN for the vehicle, which was well equipped.

Yeah, Prius seems to be very nice car. And with 250 lb of torque is even more prettier, however it is very slow performer. It feels like that electric cars are like tractors: lot's of power but not go.

I come to this topic as kind of a biased oppinion. Gas prices are high.. but not high enough for people to switch to hybrids. i worked for honda for the past 6 months and from my experience. you can buy a civic for $15k and get gas milliage a little worse then 5l per 100kms. or spend an extra 8 g's getting the hybrid civic which gets a little better then 5l per 100kms highway only. and spend about $100 at every oil change interval due to the 0w 20oil, and plastic clips that hold the splash gaurd on that break everytime that you take it off.

As for the modifying aspect of them. its the same principal. How do you get more power? by effieciently burning as much fuel as you can. the electric motor in a gas/electric hybrid only assists under acceleration, you could theoretically upgrade it to a larger wattage motor, or up the voltage to get more watts out of the motor thats in it. which either way takes more power to run. therefor taking more gas to charge. defeating the purpose of the hybrid. as for the gas side, the same things can be done that are being done right now. which all end up burning more gas in the end.

if you dont like gas prices. in my oppinion, dont drive a performance car. or at least get a second car to drive all those other days when your not out enjoying your. cruise

Thanks for a reply tmac.

I asked my friend in Electrical Engineering. He told me in general that you will be needing some axtra wattage to get faster. BUT
for mechanical upgreids you can do is to change windings in the motors in to more thinner wire and more compact. More wires the curent goes through the more powerfull your motor is. (ex: original winding is 500 windings, the upgreided with the same overall size, but thinner wires 800 windings )

Another upgreid to do is to decrese air gap between windings and magnets.
Increase magnet strenght.
Get windings from a expensive but very good conductive wire. Originally you get copper wires, but you can change it to a more "efficient" mettal. don't know which one. I heard that hardcore sound warriors use gold wires for best sound. May be golded windings would be the best, but that would cost BIIIIG $$$

I was doing some calculating yesterday. When comparing a prius to an equally equipped matrix, there's a $13,7000 price difference... even then the matrix offers slightly better performance.

To account for the difference in price, you would have to drive the Prius an additional 155,000 kms (!) to recoup the money "lost" on initial purchase in gas mileage alone.

The prius attains 4.0 litres/100 km.
The Matrix attains 6.9 litres/100km

I know, it is not worth investing in to Hybrid now, it will "repay" itself only like 5-8 years later.

I think it the key to fuel economy is gunna be the break through when the regenerative hydrogen fuel cell is created. where water goes in and water comes out. and the vehicle is completely electric. still a ways down the road from what ive read, but the technology will be a massive jump forward for tree huggers.
