I envy you LS1 guys...
Becuase the LT1 engine compartment is a piece of s#it! Been working on my engine bay clean up for the past couple weeks now and today didnt go quite as well as i'd hoped. Brief overview. Broke exaust manifod bolt. Altenator is trash, broke 2 new spark pulgs, an O2 sensor, temp sensor on the exaust manifold, and the oil filter wont come off (thats not GMs fault, thats the lube shop putting it on too tight). But... got one manifold off. woooo :( Im done for today. I can't aford to brake something else. Gm couldnt make the damn car 2" wider and longer could they?

haha. welcome to the nightmare that LT1 guys love to hate.lol. so what kinda headers you decide to go with? it is a huge PITA job and it kinda sucks but when its done you feel like a new man and the difference is pretty nice. good luck!!!
|
i dont see how an LS1 install is much easier. ive still heard horror stories from noobs like you two installing LS1 headers.
|
ive never heard a bad thing abuot LS1 header installs. all in all my header job was very smooth except for pulling the trans out after dropping a nut in the starter hole. other than that it was textbook.
|
It will all be worth it in the end Grant. You know better than most of us that patience pays off. Just keep thinking about how happy it will make you in the end...kind of like your paint job!

As a whole there isn't a big difference but to install header's it's quite a bit easier on LS1's.
|
there not as old...
|
Any engine period is a PITA to work on in an F-Body....just look how far back the engine sits. People with GTOs and Vettes LOVE the room they have to work on there cars.

Course there's gonna be a couple bad apples in every bunch, I suppose. But back to the issue at hand...Even for us LS1er's there aint much room at all. |

Yeah, mine took probably around the 7 hour mark, but you have to take into consideration, running to the parts store for parts you forgot, fighting with getting things out, like the hump in the exhaust over the axle, and most of all the manifolds...I fought with getting my manifolds out for like 3 hours total. |
well this guy said it was about 2 hours a day after work. so he had time to run to the store. lol.
ive always wondered why people take them out through the bottom. especially on the LT1. the manifold itself is on top of the plugs and even the heads, so just pull it out through the top. is it the trianglular flange that gets in the way? |

But get a load of this, talk about getting kicked when you're down. After getting the manifolds off Epic, the guy who's selling me the headers e-mails me saying hes broke them pulling them off his car so he's sending me my money back. *sighs* this hasn't been my week. |
Ohh man grant that frickin blows.
|
damn Grant that sucks. not to kick you even more but theres a lesson, never start work when you dont have all the parts. i lucked out being able to get a ypipe from summit after my headers were done but i really shoulda waited. win some you lose some. good luck, everything will turn out well in teh end.
